Want max performance when gaming? NVIDIA getting you down by downclocking & throttling your GPUs? No Problem. Here is the FIX!

#1 Download and Install EVGA Precision X v3.0.4, NVIDIA Inspector v1.9.6.6, & WinRAR 4.20 to desktop. (Install WinRAR 4.20 First, then Precision, lastly NVIDIA Inspector.)
- http://download.orbmu2k.de/download.php?id=51
- http://www.rarlab.com/rar/winrar-x64-420.exe

#2 Run Winrar-x64-420.exe and follow the instructions on the screen and install WinRAR to wherever you like.

#3 After installing WinRAR 4.20, proceed to installing EVGA Precision X by extracting EVGAPrecisionX.zip to desktop.
- Right click on EVGAPrecisionX.zip on the desktop and select "Extract to EVGAPrecisionX\" (The folder EVGAPrecisionX should have been created and placed onto your desktop.)
- Open the EVGAPrecisionX folder and run the EVGA_PrecisionX_Setup_304.exe, follow the instructions on the screen and install Precision wherever you like.

#4 Install NVIDIA Inspector.
- Right click on NvidiaInspector.zip on the desktop and select "Extract files...", Extract to Destination Path "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiaInspector" without quotes.
- Press OK to start the extraction.

#5 Run EVGA Precision X
- Select Configuration at the top right. (Looks like two gears inside a watch) and select the General Tab, check mark "Start with Windows", Press OK to exit Config.
- Select the Adjust Voltage button, Raise voltage to 1175mv & Enable K-Boost then hit Apply. (If using SLI, please disable SLI prior to enabling this feature, you can re-enable SLI once system is rebooted.) Reboot... Enable SLI If needed.

#6 Open EVGA Precision and notice that now your boost clock is running at a constant speed. :) (Of course you don't want to run like this at all times so proceed to step #7)

#7 Create Force Idle & Force Constant Boost .bat files for Nvidia Inspector. (These two .bat files will allow to to idle down your GPU Boost & Voltage or set it back to Constant Boost & Max Voltage as needed.)
- Open 2x Notepad (Click Start and type in Notepad and hit Enter.) <<Do this twice.
- Copy and Paste this... "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:0,8 into your first Notepad, Save AS... Force Idle.bat and save to Desktop.
- Copy and Paste this... "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:0,16 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,187500 into your second Notepad, Save AS... Force Constant Boost.bat and save to Desktop.

The Force Idle & Force Constant Boost.bat files may need to include extra lines for multi GPUs. e.g. You would have to add "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:1,8 to the idle.bat & "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:1,16 -setVoltageOffset:1,0,187500 to the constant.bat for a 2nd gpu for SLI.

Don't forget to add the Force Idle.bat to your system startup folder, this will ensure that your card or cards automatically idle every time you startup or reboot your machine without you having to click the Force Idle.bat every time on the desktop.

Congratulations no more downclocking or throttling. Can we go higher than our stock boost clocks? YEP. Can we still OC? YEP, just change your GPU offset to whatever you like and make sure to test for stability.

The only thing I recommend is that when performing this type of procedure please keep an eye out for the heat on your GPU(s).

Wow, I was just about to post about the annoying throttling I'm seeing with the new 306.97 WHQL drivers. Hopefully this can fix that problem.

The question I have is in the "bat" file, is it COMMA (0,8) or DECIMAL/PERIOD (0.8)?? I just want to make sure. And, I have 4 GPUs so I would have to add a bunch of lines. Further, my OC BIOS has the 1.212V setting so would the voltage offset number be different? If so, what is it? Does someone with the 1.212V BIOS know whether this procedure works and prevents throttling and downclocking?

It's a Comma. Yes, 4 Lines per bat file. Yes, You would need to change the voltage offset as well, this is what it should look like for 4 GPUS & 1.212v.

Force Idle.bat should contain the following:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:0,8
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:1,8
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:2,8
    C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:3,8

Force Constant Boost sholud contain the following:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:0,16 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,207500
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:1,16 -setVoltageOffset:1,0,207500
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:2,16 -setVoltageOffset:2,0,207500
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiainspector\nvidiaInspector.exe" -forcepstate:3,16 -setVoltageOffset:3,0,207500

I am not sure about the 207500 voltage for 1.212v but you can easily find out what you need to put for the -setVoltageOffset: by opening nvidia inspector, clicking show overclocking tab, and reading the voltage offset lines max mV, for 1.175 it reads 187.5, yours should be a little higher like 207.5 or something like that, just change the 207500 in the constant boost.bat file to whatever your max mV reads.

Why the need for .bat files ? can the power states just not be set in Nvidia Inspector ?

    I'm assuming it's forcing a k-boost override ! why can Inspector not force it's power states without k-boost ?

K-Boost forces a constant boost clock & voltage, you need the .bat files to force a idle state when not gaming or just browsing the internet and another .bat to force the clocks back to constant.

I understand that, question is why can Nvidia inspector not lock p0 (full power) state ?

Maybe it can? I have never tried it. If you can't lock the p0 state with it, I have no idea why it can't do it.

:D , you just prefer to use multiple programs and .bat files to do what Nvidia inspector "should  do " automatically then ?

Problem is it won't work for me :(

I just tried forcing P0 state with inspector. It can be done but it takes a lot more steps to do it. It's easier using EVGA K-Boost and the above .bat files.

Might be the latest drivers, but Nothing can change the voltage.
Well at least we have another work around for down clocking games !

Another reason I like using EVGA's K-Boost versus Inspector is that I don't lose 3dmark points while using K-Boost but when only using inspector to force clocks & voltage I lose about 100 points.

Interesting, so was Nvidia inspector able to change voltages with older drivers ?
If it could do a fan profile also it would be a perfect tool. I used to use it with Fermi cards to test before editing the
bios, just wish we could edit these kepler cards.

It can change the voltages on older drivers but it cannot change it past 1.175v unless you have your video cards BIOS modded.

It has been very interesting playing with this K-boost and Power target settings
I think when I get some time with some older drivers and Nvidia inspector I can draw some more conclusions, but the 680 I have been playing with exhibits quite strange behaviour in relation to performance/clockspeed, in as much as it performs almost as well at 1ghz@ 1.00v as higher clocks and volts, very weird.

Hi excuse my ignorance, but i haven't used Nvidia Inspector before. I've made the .bat files, but how do I include them in the Inspector program. Probably a silly question, but I wasn't sure.

As long as nvidia inspector is installed into the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\nvidiaInspector" all you need to do is double click on the .bat file to use them, nvidia inspector will automatically set whichever you choose.

Thank evga for the K-boost, but my clock speed drop from 1300MHz to 1150MHz into 3dmark11, but not the completely 3dmark11, the clock speed drop back to 1300mhz after 20 seconds.

I have 2 points more for graphic in windows 7 performance index with k-boost. :)

Interesting that this comes with the recommendation to force voltage to a constant 1.175, because past posts by those whom talk about max boost have only mentioned the bat files used in NI to force it.

I tried the bat method using a guide I've linked to before, along with another bat to toggle back to forced idle. I placed both in NI and made shortcuts to them. Both worked, but the force max boost bat would often only boost the core to 705MHz. I often had to click it again to get it to 1202MHz.

There may have been something wrong with the card though (MSI 660 Ti PE OC), as it wouldn't even boot to desktop with either DVI port. On HDMI it would boot to desktop, but caused BSOD when switching from TV to PC. NCP started showing my display as not HDCP capable, even though it is, and the Nvidia HD Audio would never show as ready to use in W7 Sound panel.

I ended up sending the card back to Newegg. Most MSI and other techs I spoke to said it should have booted to desktop on DVI even if the TV weren't HDCP capable. After putting my GTS 250 in, my TV always shows as HDCP capable as it did before, but it left some lingering problems with BSOD when switching from TV to PC, so I re-installed W7.

Needless to say I'm not too confident in the 600 series cards (esp the implementation of HD Audio) or the latest drivers from Nvidia at this point. I'm actually considering a 7950.  Whether I buy their product or not, I really hope AMD stays alive, because since they've been struggling, there's no one to keep Nvidia focused on QC.

It is against EVGA Forum rules to bump a thread.

I have yet to see this downclocking at certain temps/power usage levels in any of my games. I honestly haven't seen my 2 x670 FTW's go past 66C ever! I use a very lightly modified fan curve so that when my cards hit 65C the fans are running at 75%. Even Crysis 2 which probably works my cards the hardest doesn't ever push them into a downclock. I won't use any driver newer than the 306.23 because they perform terribly in most games.

Thanks, works for a while in my case. Still going without this works better for me though.
