40 years ago today I entered the USAF at Lackland AFB as an Airman Basic. I retired after 20 years. Now 20 years more have passed since my military retirement so some Airman who came into the USAF at the same time I retired would have the opportunity to retire today. Feeling a bit old today but I don't regret my military service for a moment. Life has been fun since I retired and with the exception of chronic pain associated with my military service I am doing OK. Wishing all of our forum members who served (or serving at present) in the armed forces or are thinking of serving I salute all of you on this day as I think about my military service time. I am grateful to all of you who have supported me in my post military retirement life here on the forums. Best regards R.J. (Robert)

4 years was enough for me. I couldn't imagine doing 20 during the GWOT as infantry or SF/SoF. Those guys are hardcore. Not only for the amount of punishment their bodies go through but their tolerance for BS while it directly counters their efforts.

Wow, I bet SA was a very different place back then! Thanks Robert, and to everyone else that has, is, or plans to serve in any of the forces.

Thanks for your service RJ! 5 years and some change until I can retire as well! It's been a fun ride but I'm definitely ready to hit the button at 20.

was my plan to make a career when i joined the corps in 89, but a torn ACL and MCL at 29 palms said otherwise, was the best 14 months of my life, well besides the sand and heat
