Re: 3090FTW Ultra Owners 2020/11/12 14:03:48 (permalink)
I ordered mine on the day of launch and installed the following week. Not a single issue with this card. Only thing I can complain about is the 500w bios not taking effect. It's fine though, I've been sticking to the normal bios switch and patiently waiting for the 500w bios to be fixed. Also, 500w is a lot to cool on air! I probably wouldn't even use it daily unless I put this thing under water. I do notice that this card is quite power limited. I can clock well past 2000mhz in most games, but often times I am bumping up against the power limit and I see my clocks drop.

If I were to start over, I would wait for the Strix OC. Great components, clocks well, and has a very good power limit to go with it. I can't comment on ASUS customer service, but I knew EVGA would take care of me if this card broke, that's why I went with EVGA. It is disappointing to see that the Strix is better in almost every way. If the 500w bios is working by the time the hybrid kits come out, I'll be a happy camper :D

My 3090 ftw Ultra died last night :(. Out of the blue. I saw the LED's go off then my screen went black. It was nice while I had it (2 days) guess it's back to the trusty 1080ti for now.....

I've been using mine for about 12 hours folding now. I updated both bios, updated firmware, I plan on folding for at least a few days before doing anything else with it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the artifacting doesn't turn into something worse.

What are your settings running at? I have only a few days with mine, and noticed she gets hotter than any other card I have ever owned. Last was a 2080 to strix tuned in very well. I’m not seeing consistent settings mining. Hit or miss holding different clocks. Lock boost seems to piss it off with very mild clocks in the 60s. Using OC bios.

What are your ambient temps? Is this in benchmarks or gaming? In bench I get around mid 70s, games rarely above 65

Mine is running in an old full size Antec skeleton case. Mostly open air design. I have a 120mm fan connected to the card on its back plate. This design is nice in the fact that it allows heat to rise through the fin stack as it discharges. Haven’t been able to determine if the fan above it helps or hurts it as it is trying to push air down on it. I’ll be running more test once I find it’s sweet spot. I’ll also post my findings. Running this in a case I imagine would be a hell of a challenge. And to think I thought my 2080ti Strix put out heat.

Oh, and I’m patiently awaiting a liquid block. Very much needed in my opinion. I don’t need bling, I need a heat pump.

That's freaking sweet!!! Did you have any issues at all setting up the NVLink? What, if any, games do you notice the most gains in? And how large are the gains?

Would using a 1080 TI as a PhysX card with a 3090 be overkill?

I tried using my 2070 Super as a second non-sli card. It didn't really seem to help much. I set it to a dedicated physX card in nvidia control panel. My 3DMark score actually went down 100 points. I didn't really try gaming with it. I try mining with it in just for fun. I used it for Ethereum the 3090 was giving me ~107MH and the 2070 Super was getting ~37MH. I'm not a miner I just did it as a test. It was consuming a lot of power and generating A LOT of heat. I just took it back out.

For that score were you using air cooling on the video cards??
I don't understand how 2 x 2080Ti can score close to 2 x 3090? Were the 2080Ti's on LN2?

Are there any owners of 3090 FTW Ultra that have that card for a while now without issues e.g. "red light of death" how is the card holding on what do you guys think of the single red light issue is it coincident, defect or something else.

Should I worry about getting 3090FTW and the same single red light of death?

Please give some advice

hi mate, well my 3090 FTW Ultra worked great for 8 days, then I got the black screen of death.  Basically COD crashed to desktop then screen went black, after that the card was dead.  No red lights, but PC POST error code of A2 on my mobo.  Put an older spare graphics card on in my PC and she was fine, tried my 3090 in another PC and same thing black screen.  Returned card to PB Tech who confirmed it is dead.  Currently awaiting my replacement card, hopefully it wont take too long.

Keeping fingers crossed.
I did purchase the next day air Advanced RMA to have just in cases.

I received my 3090 ftw ultra today and I tried to change my Samsung odyssey g9 from 120hz to 240hz and would black screen and restart pc every time. So I tried to start up a game and when I would increase the graphics settings it would black screen and 100% fan which I would have to restart. I tried GTAV and as soon as it got in-game black screen and card died with the red light by the left plug. I got to use it all of 5 minutes sigh. Started RMA process tonight.

Got my RTX3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming today but I won't be installing it for a couple of days as tempting it may be. I have a EKWB vertical riser mount coming and I have a couple of things to do before getting the card into my rig... drain the loop, remove the SLI'ed 1080 TI's & shoehorn the vertical mount under my Phanteks D140 distro plate. Hopefully the EKWB for the 3080/90 FTW3 should drop soon enough to plumb her into my loop.

I am fairly sure this has been mentioned before, but take special precautions the hot exhaust air of the card is not coming out an getting back into the cooling fans.  I just went through this with mine and it is now staying in the low to mid 60° C range during game play.  I do not overclock my system...

On my original airflow cooling configuration, because I would not have thought they would vent hot exhaust air inside the case, that hot air was hitting the side of the glass case and being forced back up under the card to the cooling fans.  Had I run a benchmark on the card during this situation, I might have fried mine also..

Re: 3090FTW Ultra Owners 2020/11/17 04:28:04 (permalink)
I've had my 3090 FTW3 Ultra since the day after launch, and it has had constant, daily usage for hours on end. No issues to report, except one oddity. It seems that over time, benchmark scores went down a little. When I first got it, I was hitting close to 6000 in Kombustor, but now I have to OC to get it anywhere over 5750 --- and that's after switching from a i5-9600k to a 5600x (not that I think Kombustor really cared much about the CPU). I *think* I am getting the same average FPS in games, but it's a little hard to tell since I did some other upgrades between when I got the 3090 and now. Just seems odd after replacing some things that I would actually get lower scores.
