I am trying to validate buying a 3090 over a 3080. I had one plan to start an artificial intelligence project on the 3090, yet I am not 100% sure it will be worth it. Has anyone ever had success with an AI business? Just looking for some motivation or feedback from the community called the internet. Thanks

RTX3090 have 24GB VRAM and you can use 2x RTX3090 with nvlink. nvlink allows you to sum up the memory for a task and get 48GB. Thus, in addition to performance, you need to consider how much VRAM is required for your task. If you don't have enough memory, you simply won't be able to train the neural network.

Seems like the 3090 is only worth it for specific workflows. Certainly not for gaming

An RTX 3080 or RTX 3080ti is all you really need for gaming. The RTX 3090 is a bit of overkill, unless you do home based CAD, animation, or professional photoshop.

There is no reason to buy 3090. Mayby for some kind of work, but for games - its overkill and after year or two it will be outdated (like titans).

The 3090 is way too overpriced at MSRP to be used just for gaming. Most games won't even use the 10GB VRAM on the 3080 even at 4K. The 24GB is just a waste for most games. You would be better off going for a 3080, but this is assuming you can even get it at MSRP. In this market, you have to get what you can get or just accept that you will need to wait a very long time (possibly until 2023) to get a GPU at MSRP due to the shortage. Although, if you're into very heavy 3D editing and other projects, the 3090 would benefit with the extra VRAM.

I look at the 3090 as the computer counterpart to a Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye or a new Corvette. Nobody needs 797 HP for any kind of driving in the real world..., but they do sell and they are an extremely fun toy to have! You don't even have to really use it all to intimidate anyone at the local stoplight dragstrip. Just put it into 'Launch Control' mode...., and everyone else just idles away from the light. (At my age..., I have to take my fun where I can find it!) My EVGA 3090 and AMD Threadripper make very quick work of the video editing and rendering I do these days.

I'm happy to have the additional 3090/VRAM for my VR flight sims. I originally wanted a 3080 but couldn't win the "F5" daily search, plus being on the queue list. By chance, I was able to get the 3090FE via a BB drop, at MSRP. In hindsight, I think it's a great fit for my VR. VR is about 95% of my gaming. If you can get a 3080, 3080ti, or at 3090 at MSRP, take it!

3080 is the best high-end gaming value, 3090 only for content creators. The 3080 Ti is the best choice for max gaming without the 3090 premium but Nvidia pushed the MSRP too much, it should have started at $999. But just take what you can get right now.

I think it's always better to overbuild so that way hardware lasts longer until the next upgrade. However, there seems to be a larger price gap between this generation than years past.

For games, it might not be worth it, but for AI, simulation, or 3d modeling, its very worth it due to the 24Gb of RAM. RAM is super important to be able to process very large images/data.

For people who don't have it or are waiting for the 3080Ti it may not be worth to them. But I had mine since Oct. 27th and it worth every penny since I do play alot of games with it.
