a lot of times the best solution for backplate cooling is simply 1 or 2 120mm fans blowing directly on the card. i use this a lot when benching since i have a few fans sitting around for cold runs. when i'm not running cold they make good backplate coolers

Looks good! So much better service as compared to Optimus concerning new releases.

Right but it's worth the wait! The quality of the two is night and day. I have both so it is pretty easy to compare. The EK works fine but feels like a toy compared to the Optimus. The nickel plating on the EK block is already starting to show wear after a year.

The one they send is much better than the stock one imo

I'd really like to support Optimus if they could get their act together, but the delays and lack of new products is a disappointment.  They don't even have 3090ti blocks, so they are really out of the running as far as anyone with a 3090ti is concerned.

"Optimus July 2022 update:  3090 Blocks, 3-4 weeks delayed"   Like what?  =/   Why are we still seeing these delays?  Most of the PC hardware/supply chain/inventory industry wide issues have been resolved at this point.  I'm sensing the company (or this water cooling division of Optimus) is having issues or PC water cooling isn't a big priority for them.  Which is all unfortunate because I agree with you that the quality is there.

Honestly cannot blame them. I wouldn't create a block for a card that will sell in such low quantities (3090ti). Not worth the tooling imo. I knew about the delays when I put in my order for the FTW3 block. I was in the third batch. If you cannot handle a delay to get the best of the best EK is there. What's funny is that I had an order in with EK at the same time and the EK block got delayed further than the Optimus at that time so I cancelled the EK order. Glad things worked out that way.

I bought vector 2 for my 3080 and this cooler is heavy, with both side installed and you can not just do one. Also found out that it is taller then the air cooler that evga already supplies.

Actually it is one of the lighter ones. My Optimus waterblock is over twice as heavy. Yes I have both.

I got the one with the regular backplate and you Can not use the OEM backplate with it, they include backside pads for the new backplate, very happy with overall quality, I think I would have preferred bare copper though over the nickel plating, I will assemble it tomorrow and try to take some pics, I don't often post pics so what is that thing I need to click to make imgur photo's show up? is it insert image button with the url with an i in it or something?

The big question is what will it do for temps (compared to for example the Hybrid cards).

Depends a lot on the loop it goes in.

Has everything to do with the loop, I have an EK 360 Se and a 360 PE , a 12900k 5.2 all core at about 1.316v . I plan on slipping in another 360 se on the side mount and it's going to be tight. My Kingpin HC Delta is about 17-20c , I can pull 600w + on single runs but only about 470w max on overclocking and that puts it in the low to mid 50s, my undervolted/OC KP pulls 407w average and is about 4% faster than stock and can maintain mid upper 40s on heavy workloads. Anything I change in this loop or power settings affects everything. Looking to see if it's a silver bullet is just not to be expected, The fins are finer and there is a jet plate design that should provide better cooling than the HC blocks, we just won't know until I run it. The backplate is aluminum and not quite as thick as a KP , but they provide a whole set of pads, more than OEM , for the backplate. I hope it's great but it won't be apples to apples comparison.

Re: 3090 Ti FTW3 Ultra EK-Quantum Vector² block delayed 2022/07/22 10:19:41 (permalink)
The backplate won't matter much with all the mem on the front. I fully padded up the back of my 3080ti in the Alphacool block. Backplate only gets a little warm and putting a heatsink on it doesn't appear to even nudge temps. I think the key is to use premium pads on the front.

For reference in regards to loops. I was playing Forza last night with the 3080ti pulling about 500w. Core eventually hit 45C when the room got to 26C from all the heat being dumped out of the loop. But I have dual D5s and 4 rads. Two CL480s, a 360, and a 280. CL480s are external. Block delta was showing about 13C.

That's probably about 20C lower than the hybrid cooler could manage even with some fairly loud ML120s running in push/pull. That was just a 240 rad though. Was good to see EVGA went to a 360 for the 3090Ti.

Ya, thanks for the info, hope the EK pads are good quality, they are all 1mm on the front and I have KPx . I also was going to put a MP5 works BPC on the backplate, but if it's only warm to the touch , it won't matter much and would get more mileage out of a fan.

The EK pads will work fine, but something like Gelid Extreme's would work better. How much better I'm not sure. Most of those companies except Optimus seem to use pads around 3.5 w/mk. When I repadded my Corsair 3090 block with Gelid Es, mem temps dropped about 12C IIRC. I've actually got, unfortunately discontinued, 10 w/mk thermal putty from Digikey on my 3080ti.

EK thermal pads are good enough. On my ekwb 3080 ti FE block (using 1mm pads everywhere), the difference between Gelid GP-extreme and ekwb pads is around 4 degrees on memory (from 52-54 C using ekwb to 48-50C using GP-extreme). Although I have to say, it is much harder to peel the plastic sheets off on EK pads...

The trick I use is to right click in imgur and open the pic in another tab.  That gives a usable address.  I think you may be able to right clock and copy image address too.

Its IN ,  did not have the patience to put in the third rad, so I am on the same system as the KPE HC, first PR run it was about 6 C cooler than the HC flat footed stock (418w KPE , 438w 90 TI ) AND<< left off the RGB cable , not a header or cable I could reach without tearing it down
Time Spy Ex stress test 20 pass
Clock 2040  - Average clock maintained was 2039
GPU temp 50.1 average
Hot spot 61 highest reading
mem junction 50
Perf cap VRel
mem1 42
mem2 41
mem3 41
pwr 1 41
pwr2 41
pwr3 42
pwr3 41
pwr4 43
pwr4 41
1 360 SE  and 1 360 PE radiators , fans 60 %  , D5 @60% ,
just did a boosted PR run 15508 - +155clk +701mem , clock was a steady 2190 (which is where my old KPE would crash without massive messaging of the classy tool) , average temp 45 in run , 23.5 ambient and the thing cools off when at idle much faster.

SO,  there you have it, any questions?
