If you wanted to buy a 3090, you might as well try. If you don't get one, you'll see the reviews before they pop up for sale again and you can reconsider your decision. If you do get one, maaaaaaaaybe keep it in the box until a few days have passed and all the reviews have come in. If you change your mind about it, you won't have any problem getting it sold by pricing under the scalpers.

Personally I'm going to try to get one. But I'm going to water cool and overclock it. I think the performance gap will get substantially wider with water. I bought a 690 back in the day and I didn't regret it. It water cooled nicely and temps were in the high 20's, although I did not overclock it. Honestly I think all of these modern cards pump out too much heat to try to air cool them anymore, but that's just me. :)

I will try to grab a FTW3 tmrw. If I get lucky, I wont water-cool it since the kingpin version is coming in oct/nov

So I'll try my luck with the kingpin hydrocopper. If I can get one then I will sell my ftw3 on ebay. Should be easy as I have a power-seller account so I'd get most of the money back.

If I cant get the kingpin then I'll block my 3090. I almost finished setting up my new case, just need the gpu.

See how everything is hard tubed except for the connection to/from the gpu? yeah....I really dont plan to have that 2080ti in there for long.

It's almost as if NVidia want us to make an uninformed decision when buying - and they know we can't take time to check the legit reviews first because the bots will buy all the stock up in minutes. This is on NVidia btw, not EVGA. Coming close to convincing me to wait for a 3080 Super/Ti, or just stick with my $1,500 EVGA RTX 2080 TI FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING GPU which almost halved in value overnight...

I would keep my 2080ti if I was you.
After people realise they won't be able to buy a 2080/3090 for a long time and the buy price will be higher than MSRP... oh and not only that but 3090 seems to be less impressive than many people would hope, so the 2080ti won't look as bad in comparison as it looks now (before the 3090 launches) and you should be able to sell it for more in the near future.
But when AMD also launches their cards and the stock starts building up, then its price will drop again.

I think you're right. If anything, I'd be better waiting for the 30 series Ti/Super, which looks to be a 3080 with increased Vram. The 3090 would be nice, particularly for rendering etc., but after spending so much on the 2080Ti just 9 months ago, another $1,800 now is a little crazy.

annoyed that we dont get benchmarks today.
But maybe less hype is better.
Let the scalpers focus on the 3080

Found something intresting,
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3090-vs-Nvidia-RTX-3080/4081vs4080

The scores come from a sample of 2, but both scores have almost the same results. Unless there will be an improvement with newer drivers or the two users who run the benchmarks (or the 1 user with 1 card and 2 systems) run the benchmarks with lowered clocks just to troll us, we should expect a 20% increase over 3080 in non-RTX/DLSS games.
I'm sure we're paying for the huge memory which we're not even gonna fully utilize! But no middle choice unfortunately.

Still, that's about 200% more performance than my 3 years old 1080ti! Since I'm playing on an LG 38GL950G and I'm also waiting for a Valve Index, I'll pay the extra, I'm sure I need more than 10GB.

I get the NDA but there havent even been unboxings of this thing

I guess Nvda doesnt want to shift focus so quickly before ppl can truly get their hands on a 3080
