3090 Hyrbid Kit GPU Fan 1 randomly spinning up to 100% all the time.

Installed the hybrid kit for my 3090 FTW and the temps are great and I installed the hybrid bios per the instructions but my gpu fan 1 still randomly spins up to 100% during games even though my temps are fine and everything is stable. Its really starting to get annoying. HWInfo even shows it as 30,000,000 RPM? Is this documented behavior and is there any way to fix it?

    This is not a fix, but a bunch of hybrid owners (myself included) don't connect the radiator fans to the gpu for a few reasons. The main reason is that if the gpu powers the fans then you using some of the power draw for those fans. I have my gpu rad fans connected to a Corsair Commander Pro (detects gpu temps) and it just makes my life easier. Some people connect directly to motherboard headers. I've heard of some weird issues with fan speeds and controlling the fans with other software/hardware is the fastest solution. If you really want to power the fans via the gpu try flashing the bios again and make sure you flash them to both bios slots

    So when I did the firmware flash for the hybrid kit, I followed the instructions and flashed the normal hybrid bios first, and then the OC bios after with restarts in between. However, after I flashed the normal one and rebooted, X1 popped up and said there was a firmware update (switch still on normal), but I ignored it and shut down, switched to OC and flashed the OC firmware and then I allowed X1 to further update the firmware, was that incorrect?

    I had the same issue OP. Ended up buying some fan adaptors from Amazon and running both the radiator and gpu fans directly off the motherboard and use Argus Monitor to control them.

    Works flawlessly and it’s so much quieter

    Don’t recall the exact brand but you need “male mini 4 pin to female 4 pin pwm GPU cable“
     
    searching that string should return a bunch of results.

    So instead of plugging in the tan and black cables to the board you connected them to the adapters and then the mobo?

    Yup, exactly. If your motherboard is anything like mine you’ll likely want fan cable splitters too.

    You will need some sort of monitoring software that can control the fans based on GPU temps though, since EVGA precision/afterburner will no longer work to control them. Argus monitor (costs money) is what I use but I’m sure there are others available
