Hi there. Upon receiving my 3090, I installed Precision X1 and it informed me that there was a firmware update for my card. Upon pressing start, the window disappeared, with the fans ramping to 100% and 4 red lights turning on. I waited for about 20 minutes and the card just stayed stuck in this "flash mode" with the 4 red lights on and the fans at 100%. I then attempted to run the firmware update again, with the same result. I tried powering off and on, with the same result... from there I did the following: I've run DDU to clean my windows drivers. (version: 456.55-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql) I've reinstalled said drivers. I've reinstalled Precision X1 and attempted it again. I've disabled my antivirus software and attempted to run the firmware update. None of these fix the problem. EDIT: Resolved in thread below. If you are having this issue, please scroll down. Thanks

Use the little bios switch and switch it over to the other bios until you figure it out. Sounds like maybe a power draw issue or something during the flash that has messed up that BIOS.

I don't think that's a FTW3 card, the XC3 series and Black are single VBIOS.

Resolved issue.
I looked at the event viewer and Administrative Events and found the below error. Some searching on "d3d9.dll fault module" resulted in others having similar issues with other software. The culprit was RSS & MSI Afterburner.
If anyone else runs into this issue please uninstall RSS (Rivatuner Statistics Server) and MSI Afterburner. I restarted after uninstalling both, and the firmware update completed successfully. You can then reinstall RSS & Afterburner if you so choose.

Glad it was fixed and sorry that it was an issue. I am also happy to hear it was found to be the other software since while not EVGA software it's still pretty common software that others could run into problems with. It's also important to remember if new firmware comes out to remove these programs just in case.

Does MSI Afterburner even work with the latest EVGA fan profiles? No reason to have it installed I think now.

This is good information to know once my 3080 FTW3 arrives this weekend, as I was using MSI afterburner with my current card. Saved me some potential frustration!

After a full format without having MSI afterburner onboard, my FTW ULTRA 3090 still has all 4 red lights on the PCIE slot, and my PX1 is missing the RGB TAB. My fans are at 100% and I can hear them, but PX1 doesn't report my RPMs.

Ensure you have both CSM and whatever form of 'Fastboot' your BIOS has is disabled. Also disable Windows fast boot as well. I've never had a problem with Afterburner interfering with a BIOS flash, driver install or pretty much anything else for that matter. The only thing I've used Precision for was to update the firmware on the GPU when I first got it. Otherwise, I run Afterburner. It is more stable.

Probably not a bad idea. Some commercial antivirus programs freak out with BIOS flashers. I've just been using Windows Defender for over a decade and never had an issue.

I've never had an issue with Defender causing an issue, ever. Not sure why folks use third party AV anymore when Defender is updated almost daily and is designed natively to operate with the system.
