I am putting a waterblock on my FTW 3090 and want to be able to stick the stock air cooler back on if I need to send it in for warranty repair. Where would I find the thermal putty that is on the VRM? Or where would I find proper sized thermal pads to use instead of putty? Thanks for the help.

Just replace with pads. Replacing putty with pads will not void your warranty, and less mess.

There was another 3000 Series thread about putty and it was suggested to use 3mm(?) pad. To avoid "trial & error" for thickness, should contact tech support to be sure. If the contact pressure is not enough, a thicker pad may lift the heatsink and create gaps in other areas. Also, layered pads reduce thermal conductivity.
I hope the hybrid kit comes with pads and putty. It was guessed that putty was used for the VRM due to gap filling and varying tolerances.

I used gelids and layered my pads due to limited thicknesses from gelid. I went this route because I had read someone claiming to get a -20c memtemp difference. I did everything exactly as they instructed but the only difference is that i used 1mm and 1.5mm stacked as opposed to them using 2mm and .5mm stacked. Do you think stacking 2mm + .5mm would have less of an impact on reduced thermal conductivity vs 1mm + 1.5mm?

If you want a thermal putty replacement, look for Computer-Systems K5-Pro.

Its on there Product Page, have a look. Think I paid around $10 for a tube, there is enough in one tube to apply to 1 Card.

I don't recommend pads. They cost more, the applicable SMDs don't need the higher thermal performance, and you run a higher chance of losing mounting pressure on more important parts of the card e.g. GPU die, GDDR.
