d.burnette 7 days now rocking this new 3090 FTW3 Ultra without a glitch. Some heavy gaming every day. So far so very good ! With my overclock of +143 on GPU it boost to a constant 2100 MHz with GPU temp not exceeding 60c whilst gaming. Upgraded my VR Friday from a Rift S to the higher resolution Reverb G2. The card is doing great driving the new Reverb G2 as well! Getting my turn in que for the 3090 was great timing for me.
Damn those are some nice temps. What case / cooling do you have ? And what game do you play that is at 60°C ?

flg2010 My 3090 FTW3 is ordered.. thank you notify queue. So I was wondering, those of you that received yours: 1. Is this as easy as say the 2080 or whatever 20 series install was? Remove old card, put new card and sag helper in.. plug cards in to PSU... power up.. load up in windows default drivers.. update drivers via nvidia program? 2. Start using computer Just thought I would ask. I know I have to have 3 PCI cables and I should have them.. ordered through cable mod full extra long replacements rated for my PSU.
My procedure when installing any new GPU, and is what I did with this 3090 FYW3 Ultra: Download latest Nvidia drivers to have on hand when needed. Downloaded latest version of Precision X1 software to have on hand. Even if no plan on using it, you will need in case there is a firmware update for the GPU. Download latest version of DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and install. Open up new GPU box to admire it's beauty. Then proceed: Disconnect ethernet cable - you do not want to be connected to internet while doing this. If Precision X is installed, uninstall it choosing to not retain any settings. Then using DDU uninstall the Nvidia drivers. DDU will prompt you to reboot in Safe Mode to run it. Definitely do this in safe mode. You will select when running DDU to uninstall and then shut down PC. Turn off power supply, unplug power cable to power supply. Hold power button in at least 5 seconds to discharge. Now the fun stuff. Install new GPU, making sure all power cables properly attached. Plug power cord back into power supply, switch on, and boot the PC ( still ethernet cable unplugged - important or windows will install default Nvidia drivers) At desktop, install the latest Nvidia drivers you downloaded earlier. I only install the driver and PhysX myself. After installation, reboot PC for good measure. Plug ethernet cable back in. Install Precision X1, choosing all options ( so you get firmware update if needed). Launch PX1 and see if prompted for firmway, update that if it does. Now you can either leave PX1 installed and use it , or not - your choice. I happen to like the program. Whew, lot of typing there - it is not as complex as it sounds, and trust me when I say there is nothing like a fresh clean install of vid drivers when changing GPU.

maytheus Just got back from picking up my case, mobo and CPU from Microcenter here in Houston. There were 25 people sitting outside the front door all waiting to see if any 3080 or 3090s showed up today. Guys inside said it is like that daily there! Just wow! On the topic of Microcenter, what a bunch of deceptive jackwads. The guy that was "helping" me (read: when and retrieved what I asked for out of a locker) was trying to upsell me on buying the MC warranty for $50 on the CPU and $70 on the mobo. I said no. Then he started fast talking a bunch of BS that was complete misinformation. CPU and mobo warranty are lost if XMP is enabled. BS. Warranty is lost if you watercool. BS. I wonder how many folks ignorant of the facts are getting fleeced by these jokers! I doubt I'll ever set foot in that store again.
FYI enabling XMP can indeed cause Intel to not honor the warranty*. Intel considers it an overclock and they sell a separate warranty to cover any overclocking (called the "tuning plan"). MB warranties depend on the manufacturer, and they likewise may or may not honor the warranty. Gotta read the fine print. For water cooling, only if the CPU/board are damaged by the water cooler would the warranty be void. *Whether it would ultimately hold up in court, due to warranty protection laws, is largely unknown because AFAIK it hasn't been adjudicated yet. Strictly speaking the burden of proof is on them to prove that enabling XMP damaged the CPU. Hardware companies will virtually always settle by honoring the warranty if seriously threatened with legal action just to avoid a court setting precedent.

Two points... 1) Intel has no way of knowing whether XMP was enabled or not. I would also say if it is ever adjudicated it would go against Intel since XMP is a feature created by Intel, tested by Intel and advertised by Intel to "get the most out of your gaming experience" regardless of how much fine print they attach to it. 2) XMP protection is $20. So Microcenter is still ripping people off there (and let's be real, so is Intel). I do concede that technically manufacturers could refuse to honor a warranty due to overclocking, if you tell them you were overclocking. MC's watercooling "selling point" was just flat out BS though. He flat said the warranty is void by putting a water block on it. So dumb.

Point #1 - Yes, they have no way of knowing (currently) unless you tell them/lie about it when asked. Whether one is honest about it or not is up to the individual. I specifically avoided mentioning it, since actively lying about it is technically a Federal crime with up to a 20 year sentence and/or $250,000 fine (yes, I know, very low chance of being prosecuted for it). That it's a feature designed by Intel is largely itself irrelevant in a warranty lawsuit since said warranty doesn't include it. It's a limited warranty not a full warranty. That'd be a loosing argument in court because limited warranties are explicitly legal. However, under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act they would be required to prove either one of two things: #1 That your overclocking of the CPU (be it XMP or normal OC) is what caused the damage to the CPU or #2 - That CPUs are not covered by the act itself. That number 2 is the one they'll avoid at virtually all costs because until it's adjudicated they get to operate in a legal gray area. Point #2 - I never said Microcenter wasn't ripping people off. "Store protection plans" are virtually always a ripoff. They often aren't actually extended warranties, and they almost always only "protect" against things that are already covered by the manufacturers warranty anyways. It's always better to get any type of extended warranty directly from the manufacturer. As far as the claim about watercooling, it's not entirely BS. It's just very outdated and they absolutely should know better. Back in the day using any third party cooling solution did "void" the warranty (quotes, because Magnuson-Moss existed). But that hasn't been the case for nearly a decade for Intel (don't know about AMD). Note: Some graphics cards manufacturers will try to not honor the warranty if using a third party cooling block still to this day.

Good luck today. I'm going to be doing a full fresh windows install today and see if that resolves the occasional black screen I've been getting. Don't forget to use an associate code when purchasing to get 5% off your card - that will cover your shipping and maybe some extended warranty - or just save you some dollars which you can then spend on a few beers to celebrate your nice new 3000 Series GPU! Yay! You can find associate codes in the signature of many forum members. If you happen to receive your card today, don't forget to register it using someone's rewards/affiliate code, and then upload a copy of your invoice (same page, menu on the left) - using the code won't gain you anything except some warm fuzzies for being nice, but it will give 2 EVGA Bucks to the person whose code you use. Yay! Again, you can find rewards/affiliate codes in the signature of many forum members.

Nereus Good luck today. I'm going to be doing a full fresh windows install today and see if that resolves the occasional black screen I've been getting.
Good luck Nereus
Cheers.

d.burnette Thanks! Yeah I am pretty pleased. EVGA DG87 Case w/ 120mm fans. Corsair H150i Pro CPU cooler. So far: IL-2 Great Battles, DCS, Half Life Alyx, Star Wars Squadrons. Automobilista 2. All in VR. I set my three 3090 fans to static 100% in profile for these games - as I use earbuds for sound the ambient room noise is not a factor so I just max the fans. I turn all case fans up to 100% also. Ambient case temp stays between 20c-22c.
Hahaa well I guess that's a good technique, putting all fans at 100% lmao
Don, I missed this the first time through. 100%, huh? No...what?!? I cannot hear you! Seriously, that is some awesome dedication.

Just got my email and ordered. 10/6/2020 12:36:43 PM PT notification date/time. I was really on the fence. It's way more than I wanted to spend on a card. It's going under water and the WC blocks are coming first for the XC3 versions of the cards. I was hoping to get one of those. But it doesn't look like there are as many of those coming into stock, at least from the tracking spreadsheets. Hopefully blocks become available quickly and I can avoid rebuilding part of my loop twice to run this on air. It will be nice to retire my 1080ti!

Hey why not use the fans to their full potential and keep everything nice and cool ! Again I use a VR headset and earbuds for gaming, so it isolates all the ambient noise - I don't hear them when gaming. Now if I did not use earbuds that would be another story. This 3090 FTW3 Ultra still rocking along nicely without a hitch < fingers still crossed>.

Awesome news. So glad it is working out for you. Also, a special thanks for typing out your gpu switching technique. I posted that (with the quote credit to you) in another thread to hopefully help more folks out. Thanks for contributing to this community. Game on!!!
