Buying, building, and maintaining a custom loop is time consuming and expensive. I can definitely understand why people would decide to swap it to the hybrid.

Yeah, just tossing a quick one together is a few hundred $ + time.  If you're going to spend that kind of $ it's best to do it right and that takes a lot of time.  Then if you want to upgrade the GPU or CPU -- more time and more $.  Hybrids offer the best performance that can be had without dropping $500 and a day or two to get things just right.  Fittings are just stupidly expensive as well.

I dont find it all that time consuming at all (although I have had a loop since 2014), so I can strip down n rebuild pretty quick :)
