Hey, all just got my 3080XC3 Ultra (LHR) yesterday. I am waiting on the Intel Beast Canyon Nuc to drop it in, but in the meantime, I thought I give it a go in a Razer Core X enclosure attached to a Dell G5 5590 (9750H cpu). The performance as 50% of what any other card is showing on the 3dMark boards, and I am wondering why. Here is what I have:

The  Time Spy Score is 10,564
Precision X1 Screen capture attached. it is not getting all the information for the card, but I think that is an eGPU thing.
GPU-Z looked to be reporting all correct information, but what made me wonder is, it is reporting itself to be on a PCI-E  4x slot...which may be where my "problem" is. If that is the case, it is a laptop limitation, and not much I can do until my system arrives. Although I guess I could plug it into the crypto-miner in the garage, (boot into windows for normal operation) and test it there...

Any thoughts?

3080 uses a lot of bandwidth. If you have any bottlenecks along the way (e.g. your eGPU cable), that could easily drop your numbers. Assuming the card is fine, you just need to find the bottleneck.

eGPU's have a huge bottleneck with ThunderBolt - and the 30-series has reached the limits of current eGPU technology.  Your laptop has an older TB3 implementation, Ice Lake and Tiger Lake have integrated TB3/TB4 controllers on the CPU so they perform better.  Also if you tested using the built-in laptop display its going to be really bad, use an external monitor with the eGPU for better results (which will still show performance losses and nothing like a proper desktop system performance).

Because you are using it in an external GPU enclosure.

Tested with thunderbolt port to egpu enclosure, and gpu to external display, but the explanation on the controller make sense to me. Tomorrow I will be attempting inside of my extra computer which has a 9900k in it.

So I rebuilt an itx 9900k and put the 3080 in it. 3dmark score was still a bit on the low side, but the frames in game were more than expectable, so no complaints now...looking forward to the intel beast canyon coming in, and seeing if there is any different better or worse.

    Thanks all.

    ...and the resolution matters also.
If you're not outputting to at least 1440p - the 3080 will be wasted on anything lower...
