Is it really normal for memory temps to go up as high as 100celcius while gaming?? Was playing cyberpunk at 3440x1440 then I went to check my memory temps and saw it going as high as 96-102 degrees Celcius

Did you install the Hybrid cooler yourself or did you get a card with the Hybrid cooler already on it? Unless your case airflow is absolutely atrocious there's no reason your vRAM/memory temps should be that high, especially on a 3080. On my 3090 FTW3 Hybrid for example after a pretty long gaming session in CyberPunk 2077 (at 3440 x 1440 no less, maximum settings, RT on Psycho) my vRAM/Memory readouts were only at 61.8C/59.2C/55.2C - they're even lower now on a Kingpin Hybrid because it has superior VRM/Memory cooling for the stuff not on under the cold plate's extension. It's possible your card has a bad mount, even it's a prebuilt Hybrid - definitely sounds like a combination of bad mount & bad airflow to me. If you can post a picture of your system's layout inside that would help as well.

Mine was sitting at around 102C with a +1500 on memory whilst mining Eth. I've sinced dialed it down to where the Tjunction temp is around 93C. I had HWinfo running when I was playing Warzone but forgot to really look at Tjunction temps but if I recall they were sitting around like 80C or something when I did look, this is at stock. My 3080 XC3 Hybrid was direct from EVGA.

I see! thank you! Is that safe though? I did read that the damaging temps are around 120c. But I'm not entirely comfy seeing 90+C lol. Unless thats totally normal

As I posted, it is definitely NOT normal, and indicates either a bad mount and/or bad airflow, especially on a Hybrid card.

That's a bit high. Are you talking memory junction temps (in the chip) in HWiNFO? 100C in HWiNFO is a bit warm but not too out of hand running at max power limit for sustained periods. - The mem chips are cooled by the hybrid AIO, about 25C to 35C above the gpu temp is what I usually see for junction temps. If the delta is much higher, you might have a bad mount. - Igors lab has tested putting thermal pads between the back of the board and the backplate to reduce mem temps, that would indicate that better airflow across the back of the card should reduce mem temps slightly.

Wanted to share that I just installed my hybrid kit on my evga 3080 ftw3 ultra today. Under load, GPU core temp improved (around 15C), but memory temperature (measured by hwinfo memory junction temp) got worse. By worse, it's around 4C higher than default. I don't know why yet. I would have to take it apart, but i would need pads ready to supplement or replace if needed. A bit disappointed actually, the default 3080 ftw3 ultra with the 3 fans is good.

I wonder if 4c is very significant. That's a 4% difference throughout the normal operating temperature range. Unless your memory temperature was already at 100c, 4c increase is not significant nor impactful.

Are you still seeing this issue? I have the hybrid kit for my 3080 xc3 ultra on the way to install tomorrow.

Yes. It was very successful. Memory junction temp idle at 64c. With a load like Star Citizen, the highest junction temp I saw was 85c with averages in the 70's. Core temp idle at around 39c with 25c ambient temps. This is all measured using Hwinfo with the default OC settings and the aggressive fan curve preset. Corsair 4000d Airflow AMD 5900x Arctic freezer 2 280 : Mounted at the front with 2 stock fans pulling air in ~ idle around 38c 3080 XC3 Ultra Hybrid : Mounted at the top with 2 stock fans pushing air out at the top One 120mm stock fan mounted as exhaust at the back. I might swap the thermal pads at some point, but the results are much better than the stock cooler. I saw slightly better GPU temps with the radiator pulling air in, but it was dumping heat on my cpu and other components. I can see how a bad mount, poor airflow, or bad fan configuration could lead to higher temps.

I didn't think to do that. Already in the trash unfortunately. When I swap the thermal pads and reapply paste next year I will try that. I'll probably try slimmer pads to not bend the board with the plate.
