What's the release going to be like? Anyone got a plan for actually getting a card?

For my birthday I want Ethereum to go Proof of Stake, making all these ampere cards flood the market at normal prices. Is that too much to ask? ;-;

I'm still in the queue for the 3080 but at this point I might just reset the counter and wait for a 3080 TI instead. Wanted a 3080 for AC Valhalla and Cyberpunk, those games have come and gone. May as well just get back in line and wait for a 3080 TI now. I am fortunate, as I'm on a 2080 Super so I still have a rather strong card.

Unfortunately, given the ever-increasing demand and continuing supply issues, it's likely there will be more people willing to camp for days ahead of launch than there will be available cards. That being said, it doesn't hurt to take a chance.

I would definitely like to buy one of these cards, but I'm not a member of the Elite program. Seems like my signup dates for an EVGA account back in 2012 would be a stronger indicator that I'm a gamer than if I purchased a motherboard or watch Twitch. Both of which scalpers and miners can just view as a cost that eats their margin between the MSRP price and the gray market price for cards. Went back to school to get an engineering job that pays well, wanted to build a new PC as a graduation present to myself, but found that the hardware market is in shambles. Crypto mining has been an unmitigated disaster. The absurdity of thinking that ASIC-resistant currencies would somehow democratize crypto mining was absurd and only reveals that the people creating these currencies fall into the classic trope of a highly educated person with a deficit of practical understanding of the world around them -- namely, a facile understanding of economics. All they did was create a new market for GPUs that has different metrics for GPU valuation, which prices out the other market. Crypto values cards simply at the predicted average net value that the cards will create before running them is no longer profitable. Crypto is driving the market, and scalpers are simply capturing the consumer surplus between MSRP and the value of the cards to miners. Meanwhile, nearly everyone who isn't using the cards to generate money is priced out. This is literally Economics 101. Furthermore, their assumption that EVERY owner of a card can simply offset this by mining fails to appreciate that uses will use the GPU for other tasks thus diminishing the amount of mining it will perform in its lifetime. That many users keep their computers in their bedrooms and many of those will not want to run their computers while they sleep. Assumptions about the costs of electricity further alter the net value of the card to users. That is, if the card is expected to generate $4000 of value in its lifetime and costs $2500, what happens when a user resides in an area where electricity is 5 times more expensive than low-energy cost areas where miners establish operations? Coupled with a possible reduction in mining hours to less than 8 hours a day it's unlikely that regular consumers will see s meaningful portion of the value in crypto mining returns that a dedicated mining operation will. It also neglects one of the most fundamental realities of mining being profitable on GPUs: If there is a net profit to be made on one card, then that profit scales linearly with the number of cards purchased. Thus, miners are limited largely only by the amount of hardware they can get their hands on. Thereby incentivizing miners to employ special efforts to gain better access to the opportunities to purchase more cards. Namely, botting and gaming any and all systems to dispense cards. The notion that GPU does anything beneficial for crypto should immediately be dispensed with. All currencies should move to algorithms that favor ASICs. Specifically targeting GPUs is damaging the livelihoods of those who work in the gaming industry and supporting industries. If we had a more technologically savvy regulatory body, they see the damage that Crypto is having and force stewards through legislation of crypto technologies to avoid algorithms that benefit generalized hardware like GPUs, CPUs, APUs, and FPGAs to protect the access of individuals and other businesses to modern computing.

I really want to get in the Queue, but I think that's everyone's expectation too. I bet we'll see it fill up to months within the first few seconds of being open at this point. My only hope is that the EVGA preorders open up BEFORE the cryptominer is cracked. Once it's cracked, it's game over and demand will skyrocket.

If you join the unofficial Micro Center discord, the local communities are pretty friendly in helping you out in getting stock info (if available)

Ethereum is just the currently most profitable crypto to mine. If it is taken off the table there are a few others that are still pretty profitable. I'd guess most people with mining farms will just switch to the next best thing. That and ETH 2.0 isn't going to happen this year, which is when it switches to Proof of Stake. EIP 1559 is happening in June or July and will cut the profitability of mining by a good chunk, but it's also likely that it will increase the value of ETH as it will significantly reduce the cost of transferring ETH and make those costs more predictable.

I'm sure they will, but how many is the question. At Westmont there were supposedly only 5 6900XTs on the day that card released.

One would think they take the length of time an account has been made into consideration when doing the ques. its been like 6 years since ive upgraded my computer and i think its time.

Rumors are circulating that it will be announced 5/18, embargo lift 5/25 and released 5/26 according to Videocardz.
Microcenter should have a bunch on launch day but it's very likely people will line up days in advance.
There are currently people lining up 24hrs in advance of stock shipment days with no guarantee that anything will show up.

Negative Sir. I'm excited by all the hype but not in any rush. I have a complete system sitting in pieces beside my work computer waiting to be built for the last 2 months now. Even have an EVGA PSU as part of it but don't want to spend silly money for something only to spend silly money again and then try and sell my first silly money to someone else and pretend it's "almost like brand new" LOL

Yeah, same. I spent big bucks to get a 780Ti Classified long ago, but apparently that doesn't make me "elite" enough. Oh well, I guess I'll keep commenting.
