Playing some games and suddenly started experiencing a beeping noise that sounds exactly like an old school motherboard speaker. Pretty sure its coming from the graphics card but I could be wrong, although nothing else in my computer has a speaker as far as i know. Just goes and goes until I alt-tab or close out the game, and then continues randomly after a few minutes and sometimes just stops all together.

I just got this 3070 ti about a week or so ago, it replaced my 3070 xc3 which ive had zero issues with since January. When i "upgraded" to the 3070 ti, i went ahead and changed out my PSU to a corsair 850 watt unit since mine was getting pretty old.

Have the latest version of PX1 and it did indeed do a firmware update on the first start, have latest drivers, and 94.04.5A.00.FO vbios if any of that matters

Nothing funky going on with temps, everything is in the 60s looking through all the sensors on AIDA 64.

Is there actually a speaker on these cards?

Thinking it could be a low voltage warning or something like that? Sorry if this has come up, search function is broked.

I believe the graphics card doesn't have a speaker. Check your motherboard and GPU temps and post that info as well as the remainder of your PC specs.

    3070 ti ftw3 ultra
    r5 3600
    gigabyte b550 aorus board
    rmx 850 psu 2021 unit
few m.2s and a handful of HDDS.
    completely air cooled

Motherboard does not have a speaker, some of the drives might but they are in a completely different part of the case. I do also have a wifi PCIE card right underneath, ill have to look into that but it seemed louder on the opposite side of the card to where its located. Probing around with my phone recording video, that seems to be where the noise is most intense.

Had aida 64 up on my second monitor and system temps all seemed pretty fine, everything from chipset to m.2s was in the 40s and 50s max. Nothing crazy from the CPU either. This is playing battlefield 4 which is not a very demanding game either, so its not like im really challenging this hardware.

"few m.2s and a handful of HDDS" why? this is not ideal at all.  stop this.

the beeping is probably your UPS being overloaded.

    Don't have a UPS.
Yeah its a lot going on lol, got a new drive a few months back and have been using the older as file backups temporarily.
Might not be the best for performance but I haven't noticed any issues. GPU is still appears to be able to use a full 16 lanes on PCIE 4.0
But forsure not the best for heat and power. Planning to get a new case this week and downsize either way.

I'd still like to know your CPU and GPU temps when the beeping noise occurs.

GPUs do not have built-in speakers/buzzers. Motherboards used to have back in the day, now it's mostly gone as well (there are some high end models that still carry them). Since you have located the sound on your card, are you sure it's not just heavy coil whine? Alternatively and if it's a clear "beep-beep" sound, is your system a pre-built system? System integrators often use an aux speaker when setting up a new system, they might have left it on your m/b. It wouldn't explain why it goes off when the card is under load as normally it shouldn't (beep codes burst while the system is self checking under post), but it's a good start. Look at your front panel headers, both Master and Elite versions of Gigabyte's B550 m/bs have speaker headers there to connect a speaker.

If it's not a UPS backup power unit - it has to be the motherboard alarm of either overheat or undervolt .?  Doesn't it .?...

I mean the only other alarm beeping than those I've ever heard from a PC is from a case/ chassis intrusion alarm that some units had to protect from people opening them .

I would strip the whole thing down to a barebones build.  one drive, one stick of ram, one GPU and slowly add parts.

and get a damn UPS you animal.

it does look like the b550 has speaker headers in the Fpanel spot.  must be plumed in there.

A UPS might be needed in the USA but in other countries, like those in Europe, it should not be necessary.

I would think it would still be useful if you work with data you can't afford to lose....You might have current protection built into the grid (do you??)

The beeping could be from a HDD that's failing, some of them do that.

I use a pure sinewave UPS to make sure clean steady power is always hitting my rig.  power surges, lightning, data protection are all secondary but on my list as well.

If you have sensitive data that must always be protected then a UPS is needed. For the casual user in Europe a UPS is not needed (my personal opinion). I haven't seen a power outage in 4 years. The one power outage I did see was announced beforehand for maintenance. So everyone had time to plan ahead and protect their data.

I don't have a UPS and haven't seen the need to have one for myself.

Can we get back on the subject of the beeping noise?

right.  so a barebones build would be helpful.  even trying to boot it without any ram installed, then try with a single stick of RAM.  removal of all other devices.  no hard drives except the main OS NVME.  no pcie cards except the GPU.  nothing in SATA.

that sounds like a fan rubbing on something to me.

i can also see your fPanel header speak is not connected.

check for fan rubbing.  dusty fans can squeak like this too.

I could see it being a drive. All seem to be functioning though. Just weird that it would only occur under graphical load and go away the moment i alt-tab or alt-f4 out. Not too worried either way. If I can get it to happen again I'll try to pin point the noise and get better audio with the fans disabled/disconnected. Could very well be something other than the graphics card, but thats just simply the latest change to the system along with the power supply.

Sounds like coil whine/squeal, yup. It's fairly common these days and to be expected. It might get away gradually as the capacitor/inductor in question "wears in" or might get worse. You could try RMA the card (not sure where EVGA stands when it comes to coil whine) but, judging by the current market situation, I'd definitely wait a bit. Others things you could do is either bump the fans speed a bit to help with ample airflow and lower temps. Various users over the years have reported that framerate limiters, enabling V-Sync/G-sync/FreeSync could help. Undervolting or lowering the o/c, too. A bit more advanced and the only proper fix is to use insulating varnish/hot glue to stabilize the inductor(s) and secure them in place but I would not advise that if you're not confident enough around the pcb.

This may sound like a random thought, but can you try to run your games with the GPU power limit set to 60-70%?

Better yet, undervolt it to around 0.937V and 1890MHz clock and see if the sound goes away. This will reduce your power draw by a good amount. Thinking that if the GPU is squealing in a repetitive pattern, then it could be related to a regular switching that is synchronized with hitting the limiter. Get your card to run below the limit, see what happens.

Record before and after data with GPUz and make sure you capture the limiter data.

The sound got louder at the end when the camera moved up past the CPU heatsink.

Try using a cardboard tube next to your ear to isolate where the sound is coming from. The paper towel sized ones are the best, but you can tape a couple (or 3) toilet paper roll tubes as well.

I'd wager that this sound a wobbly fan rubbing up against something like a cable - after the fan speeds up.

It sounds like coil whine to me.  Based on the video, it could be the motherboard VRM, the video card VRM, or that m.2 SSD.  I have heard all of those make similar noises.  A PSU can also make coil whine noises, but in the video, it doesn't sound like it is coming from the PSU.
