Hey all,

I just built a new computer with an RTX 3070 XC3 - Ultra Gaming and an 850 Watt EVGA G5 power supply.

I have actually never heard coil whine so bad in my life, I did latest firmware update through X1... I have Mackie monitor/speakers that can't even be used with this graphics card in the computer, it sounds like you are being electrocuted it's so bad. Is RMA my only choice?

EVGA is there beta firmware anywhere for this card?

Thanks for any help!

    Firmware won't fix coil whine.

It could be the card, and a break in period may help. Run something overnight that causes it to coil whine bad to break it in.

If that doesn't help, you can always RMA. However, keep in mind that coil whine can be a cascading problem starting with the power input to the PSU, the PSU itself, and finally the card - or any combination of those.

Yeah, you are stuck with it. One thing though... Are you sure it's the GPU? I had a 750w G5 PSU. The first one was loud and noticeable, the RMA unit... O M G the coil whine sounded like one of those dot matrix printers. Luckily I got my money back and never looked back. Not a fan of the G5 line-up. They used FSP for that line-up and it's definitely lacking compared to their Superflower units.

I only hear things go crazy when I start a game up so I assumed it's the GPU.  Damnit I thought EVGA made legit power supplies, it's the one thing I bought that will be a pain in the ass to return too :(

I tried a new power supply and still have the problem (all the components were new in this build)

I hated this build from start to finish and then to have it do this lol.... My friend is going to try and swap out some parts and see if it fixes anything because I lost my patience with it and I'm bout to send it all back and try different components

What games and how high are your framerates?  My experience is that a lot of GPUs coil whine at over 150 FPS or so.  Especially in menus where the framerate can go into the hundreds.  I usually limit my games to below the refresh rate of my monitor which is 144Hz.

I have the XC3 Ultra and its actually quieter than my 1080TI it replaced as far as coil whine is concerned.

I hope you get it figured out sucks when you get a new part and have problems with it.

My RTX 2080Ti has some high pitch coil whine but it's managed by low temps most of the time, it gets worse on lower end PSU's. If I overclock it definitely gets louder. Once you have it, your stuck with it though.

Happens in Modern Warfare and Doom Eternal (only games I have)
    I'm over 150fps... Connected to a 240hz Samsung G7

I tried turning vsybc on, lower hz to 120 and it didn't make any difference. I just hooked up my old i7/1080 rig and it's sweet silence...
I'll update this thread after buddy trouble shoots it.

I'm getting the same coil whine with my 3090 kingpin.  Either that or loud pump.  Actually had a gnarly headache last couple days probably because of it.  Regret getting rid of my custom water loop.

Welp the only thing that fixed my problem was getting rid of the EVGA G5 power supply. I tried 3 different EVGA PSUs

I replaced with a Corsair RMx 850 and it seems to be all good now thank god.

No more EVGA PSU's for me in the future, this was a nightmare.
