Interesting how Nvidia can deliver that many of their mining gpu's by MAY to this company who just put in a new order for them... https://www.tomshardware.com/news/bitcoin-mining-nvidia-cmp--gpus-30-million-order It appears that at least someone is sold on Nvidia's Cryptocurrency Mining Processor (CMP) offerings. Hut 8 Mining Corp., one of the world's largest and oldest Bitcoin mining companies, has put in an order worth $30 million for Nvidia's CMP graphics cards. Nvidia will start delivering the order starting May 2021, and Hut 8 Mining Corp. plans to get everything up and running by the summer. With the purchase, Hut 8 Mining Corp. hopes to increase its mining operations substantially. The company estimates a collective performance up to 1,600 Gigahash. The incorporation of Nvidia's CMP devices will also allow Hut 8 Mining Corp. to venture into alternative blockchain networks as well as extending its current mining business.
The details of the deal are kept under wraps so it's unknown which CMP models Hut 8 Mining Corp. purchased. Currently, Nvidia offers four different CMP devices in the shape of the 30HX, 40HX, 50HX and 90HX. The first two models are available now, while the remaining models are scheduled for the second quarter of this year. Given the time frame of the order and estimated delivery date, it's anyone's guess which SKUs are part of the deal.
“The adoption and the development of applications interacting with various blockchain networks have never been stronger, opening many possibilities across a variety of industries,” said Jaime Leverton, CEO of Hut 8. “We are incredibly excited to have these high performance CMPs in our fleet. We believe mining with CMPs will open up new opportunities for Hut 8 and will allow us to continue to execute on our long- and short-term plans for increased and diversified revenue streams.”
Nvidia actively markets its CMP devices toward mining Ethereum so it's plausible that Hut 8 Mining Corp. may be taking a crack at Ethereum. Even in its official announcement, the chipmaker didn't go into pricing so it's a mystery just to how many units can be bought for $30 milllion.

Thank you for confirming.
T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

Bulk sales vs single sales.
Sadly it's 'easier' money to just sell in bulk.

What it really shows is everyone in this forum could have access to one if they actually cared to make that happen. But we all know they're a business.

If you were a billionaire, why would you want 50 million 3080s? To make more money? You're already a billionaire, not only do you have money but you can use the same money to make better business deals. Like, I can imagine it happening anyway, but why would a billionaire who actually has liquid access to their money, need quick money?

I would think because for them, there is never enough money, so they continue at all cost.

They wouldn't want them to make money, once people start having millions and billions in spending money they start collecting rare, valuable things just to collect them. High-end GPUs are pretty damn rare and valuable now, and I'm sure some rich spoiled kids would love to have them as a status symbol, just to show them off and make their other friends and online cliques envious of them.

And this kind of thing will only get worse as wealth inequality increases... I just have never been able to understand why having things, specifically because others can't, gives people satisfaction. 😞

$30 million? Isn't that like 30,000 GPUs in ebay prices? Want to know where they're getting all that free electricity from to run those. My problem with all the deflection to crypto mining being at fault is the numbers don't really add up. For a decade now Nvidia has been catering to supercomputing cluster building that have the same scale of build. The core of the issue is Nvidia can't make enough cards, not the crypto is ruining the market. Nvidia needs to up their game and get their act together. Diversify their foundry use already...

+1. The same goes for AMD although the AMD CEO stated in the quarterly financial report that they will be ramping up GPU production.

And unfortunately, they are a business and they don't care. If they can sell mass quantities of these cards at significantly higher markup, they are going to. I just hate all the theatrics saying they are for us, when they really don't care, except for the mighty dollar. oh well.

Untrue. As AlexP11223 said most of them are Turing dies which aren't fabbed anymore. The one model that was an Ampere card was using rejected dies, since the cards don't need functional video out.
