Anyone have any recommendations for an 8 port or higher 2.5Gig ethernet switch?  Getting my house wired finally next week and since I will be upgrading my Xfinity gateway (we need the gateway due to the voice line) to their XB7 model which supports up to 2Gig speeds and we already have 1.2 on our account (upgraded "free" from 1Gig) I'd like to get a 2.5Gig+ capable switch.

Having problems finding much though that isn't $1000+ enterprise grade stuff.  Was hoping to keep it under $500 depending on port count.  I've found a few Netgear, TP-Link, and Zyxel switches that have either 8 2.5Gig ports or a mix of usually like 8 1Gig and 2-3 1/2.5/5/10Gig ports and 1-2 1/10Gig SFP+ ports.  Those would work since I only will have a couple devices at the moment that support greater than gigabit, just was hoping to find something "perfect" and be done with it for a while.

I guess my other option would be something like run my PC direct to the 2.5gig port on the XB7 gateway and run everything else through a standard gigabit switch off one of the other 3 ports on the gateway.  Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?  From what I could tell, Ubiquiti has some stuff coming at some point.  They do have one model with 2.5Gig ports (a $900 enterprise model) but it's also sold out right now.

California.  We grabbed their 1Gig plan last year and they upgraded it to 1.2 at some point.  Supposed to be around 35-40 up but with everyone working from home etc. the upload is usually trash in the evenings, but it's our only option for faster than 100MB down right now.  Even AT&T is capped at 75MB according to their site when we plug our address in even though they're advertising their 1Gig up/down fiber here :(

I was in a similar dilemma recently, but also wanted to get rid of my ISP rented gateway. Got what I needed from BestBuy with a nice discount from a buddy who works there.

Had an Arris CM3200A lying around (DOCSIS 3.0, same as the ISPs gateway; fine for the Gigabit service currently available in my area)

    Grabbed an ASUS RT-AX86U Router (4 - GbE LAN ports, 1 - GbE WAN, 1 - 2.5G LAN/WAN port)
    and a
    Netgear GS110EMX Switch (8 - GbE ports, 2 - 2.5/5/10G ports)

I was looking hard at some of those 4/6/8 - 2.5G switches, but when it came down to it, I figured the Netgear would suit me better (plus the lifetime warranty is nice).
Figure I can build a server sometime in the future to utilize one of the 10G ports, my main rig can steal the second 10G port, and my ASUS can take up 2-4 of the GbE ports in Link Aggregate, with the 2.5G WAN port on the ASUS saved for the modem if my ISP ever offers faster than Gigabit service.

I figure this is relatively future-proof overkill considering I don't need to edit video files over my network or anything like that, and there's only two other PCs in my home that need/want an ethernet connection, and I doubt their owners are planning to ever upgrade or utilize a 2.5G or higher connection.

Thanks for the reply.  I did a ton of looking at switches over the last few days.  In the end I decided since right now I only have 1 device that can even do 2.5Gbe and the switch selection is limited and pricey per port vs Gbe switches that I'm going to compromise for now and wait a year or two to really build up with faster switches.  I've seen Ubuiquiti has some 2.5Gbe stuff in beta testing apparently.

So what I'm going to do for now is get Xfinity's XB7 gateway (upgrade vs our XB6) as it supports up to 2Gig Internet, we're already being given 1.2 now on our plan, and the gateway has 4 switch ports one of which is 2.5Gbe.  I'll run that direct to my PC, then all other lines in the house will run through a couple Gbe switches to get to the XB7 box.

Our contract is up in Oct and we're talking again about dumping the cable TV side along with the voice line.  In that case it would open it up to get our own "gateway" device.  Right now all the 3rd party ones that have the voice support only support up to 1Gig.  I can't remember what DOCSIS that is but it's not the one that supports >1Gig, possibly they're 3.0 like yours.  I think the new one is 3.1 or 3.2 I forget (read it the other day).
