Hope someone can help out with this.  I currently have a Dell U2414H.  I'm going to go dual monitor finally and I was tempted to just grab a second one because they're still sold, and pretty cheap and would maintain color accuracy for when I'm editing photos outside of gaming since I haven't bought a new hardware calibration puck yet that can deal with modern LED backlighting.

One of the guys I game with mentioned he had a 25" Dell that was a 1440 instead of the expected 1080.  So I started looking into it and it looks like the U2518D is the currently available model of what he has.  I was all ready to go for it when I realized that maybe 25" is too small for that resolution?  Now I'm thinking of spending some extra money on the Asus PG279Q but still running the Dell as the second monitor.  What do you guys think?  Any other monitors I should be looking at? Main requirements are 1080+, IPS, fairly accurate calibration measurements out of the box if possible otherwise able to be calibrated correctly with the right tools.

Thanks, I was eyeing the Acer as well.  Amazon/Newegg reviews are mixed in some cases on both.  People ding Asus for dead pixels and Acer for bad backlight bleeding.  The Acer is a bit cheaper though.

Yeah I'm debating Amazon vs Best Buy.  Either is a wash on price and we have Prime already.   Amazon can have it here tomorrow/Thursday vs Saturday for store pickup for Best Buy which of course they're easier for returns.  Adding in any extended warranty type stuff and BB loses out on price by a good chunk.

You know the drill ---> check for dead or stuck pixels or a line across the screen with

    Black screen

    White screen

then run RGB colors & Gray

Then I'd run a couple benchmark runs

So now I'm getting spooked by all the reviews about bad bleeding and multiple returns to get a good panel even now in late 2018.  I'm almost wondering if I should compromise and go with the 278QR which is the TN version and just use my current Dell when I want to do photo editing.  That would kind of suck though since it wouldn't be right in front of me.

Now I'm kind of wondering if I should have saved $300 and got the Dell U2717D.  It has a lot of input lag apparently though but maybe it would have been fine.  It definitely checks the IPS and color accuracy out of the box checkmarks.

    I seriously advice 27" for 1440p and 32-34 for 2160p.

Thanks, I did go for the 27".  I wonder if I made a mistake going for the 144Hz monitor when I'm planning to use my current 60Hz in a dual monitor setup with it.

Thanks, I did already order the Asus PG279Q.  I'm wondering if I made an error though because now I'm reading about issues pairing a 144Hz and 60Hz monitor.  I guess if it doesn't work out I'll just send it back and get the Dell U2717D.  I'm sure any input lag I notice I'll adjust to.  It's not like I'm playing competitive FPS or anything.

I've had the Asus PG279Q for about a yr and half now and have no complaints, great color, no dead pixels, some slight blb. So if yours comes in as a keeper I would recommend keeping it, now that I've used a high refresh monitor I can never go back to 60hz.

It's not just competitive fps either, I don't play those, all the older games I have that were locked at 60 fps I instantly notice the difference, some to the point I can't even play them, well no longer than 20 min or so before I end up cross eyed and nausea feeling.

As Cool GTX mention you can use the 60hz monitor while using the 144hz for gaming to see any support, monitor software that is open or any in game maps, info of the game your playing, etc. You can also set the desktop refresh rate of the Asus monitor to 60hz to match the

other 60hz monitor and set 144hz refresh rate inside the game, although I've notice a difference(smoother) with the desktop cursor and web browsing having the desktop set to 120 hz.

Thanks, I did see that setting the Asus to 120 is supposed to fix any issues mixing the two refresh rates so I'll probably try that first.  Had a long day so just now getting to unboxing it.  Thanks to Amazon same day for free I got the monitor today after ordering at like 1am lol.

Just got it set up.  I guess I won the lottery.  I don't see any real backlight bleed.  Just IPS glow that's more noticeable than my 24 because it's wider but if I move in front there's just a bit of light along the edges.  My Dell U2414H has that though and it was never an issue.  No dead pixels that I can tell either.  There does seem to be a bright spot in one spot but on a black background there's nothing there.  I almost wonder if it was a flaw with the site I used

Thanks, I think I'm happy with it.  Not having any issues with refresh rate although I did set it to 120 but strangely if I run a full screen game it kicks down to 60.  However, it could be the game which is SWG Emu which is an Emulator project for the old Star Wars Galaxies MMO using the game engine from its 2004'ish state.  I had no such issues with World of Warcraft for example but that runs in windowed/fullscreen.  I didn't have time to test anything else.

That strange spot is only noticeable if something with a solid background is static on the screen.  It's just right of center and just above the windows 10 taskbar.  The only way I can describe it is maybe a backlight LED that is running "hot" because it's black on a black background, but a brighter white on white and brighter versions of all colors on a solid color.  I almost didn't catch it at first so definitely not worth returning for that.  I'd likely get a much worse unit in exchange it sounds like and this one is like 99%+ there.

Looks like the refresh rate thing is definitely tied only to that one old game.  It's settings even specify 60hz and doesn't seem to be changeable.  I fired up Heroes of the Storm and put it in fullscreen instead of windowed and by default it actually bumped the rate from 120 to 144.  So yeah I'm happy.  Definitely need to get a calibration tool though.  Gamma is noticeably off vs. my Dell which out of the box is more accurate, and the Dell I actually noticed a slight redness to white stuff that I didn't know was there until now when comparing with the Asus.

Thanks, I did already order the Asus PG279Q.

    Great choice.

    27" is perfect for 1440p & 4k imo.

Congrats on your purchase. So far, I've been very happy with my 27" 1440P 144hz monitor.

Great choice and welcome to the 1440P 144Hz club! I did exactly what you were debating earlier. I have a Dell U2417H which was my primary monitor until I decided to upgrade. I went with the PG278Q as it was significantly cheaper (well over $200!) and haven’t regretted it at all. The colors are a little off compared to the IPS panel I have, but I use the IPS as a secondary and photo editing monitor with the fast one for games. Win win!

Enjoy it, man. Fast refresh and G-Sync are both awesome to have.

Yep it's been great so far.  I also just got a new XRite calibration device so I'm going to try calibrating both monitors this weekend and see how that goes.  Should be nice to have two accurate monitors for photo work etc.

I have 24 and 27" QHD monitors. 27" QHD is just right. 24 is a bit small.

Mine aren't gaming, both are Benq, the 27" being the one for photo designers and it is excellent.

    I seriously advice 27" for 1440p and 32-34 for 2160p.
