Hi forum,

I noticed that the 2080ti graphic card has two serial stickers, and I was wondering if EVGA will honor the warranty if the larger sticker that says "void if removed" missing. Technically, the card still has the small serial number sticker around the PCI-E connector and therefore it's identifiable and traceable. If EVGA denies warranty in such case, what would be the legitimate reasons?

Thanks

Yes, they could. You aren't suppose to remove that sticker.

Yes, it is a legitimate reason. The sticker is there for more than just the number on it. The small sticker on the pci bracket is just for verification that the backplate sticker and the card are the same, and someone didn’t pull the backplate off of a different card and swap them.

If you want to cover the backplate sticker, get some matte black hobby tape and cover it, of look for someone selling just a backplate and modify the backup.

Another option would be to find someone with a CNC and a little bit of time, and get them to make you a custom backplate.

In the end, don’t remove that sticker.

Thanks for the explanation. Can I please ask additional questions about it tough.

If you want to make sure the no one had tampered with the card, such as swapping, then the none-tamperring sticker should serve as good evidence, right? I think you have to remove that "evga" black none-tamper sticker to swap the back plate.

In addition, I saw in this video (youtu.be/jsqcAaI6H_4?t=250) that the sticker came off with the back plate protective plastic. How would you evaluate warranty in this scenario?

The only reason the tamper seal is there is so that EVGA can quickly verify if the GPU was opened at any point. If the tamper seal is broken, they will open the card and verify if the user had caused any physical damage to the product which may cause the failures. That tamper seal doesn’t affect warranty.

The warranty sticker does affect warranty.
If the sticker comes off naturally, the user should contact EVGA and let them know, and save the sticker. You will not be able to remove the sticker and preserve it.

I don’t think the backplate comes with the plastic wrap anymore, so you wouldn’t be able to use that. That was a pre-release card, and the packaging changes constantly as updates are made. If you try to remove the sticker, you will void the warranty. It isn’t worth trying. Look into one of the cheap alternatives that were already mentioned.

I can confirm that even if the "warranty void if removed" serial number sticker is missing, so long as the other factory stickers and the smaller serial number are present, we can assist with an RMA.
