One thing to note. I never swapped the toggle away from the one that i failed on.

Here is a hail Mary to try. I have no idea if it will work, but it would be what I would try next.

Uninstall x1.... again, clean uninstall the video drivers using DDU in safe mode.... again...

Remove the card.

Place the card in a different pcie slot so it detects as new hardware and try the patch again with just the windows installed driver version.

Re: 2080ti FTW3 Fan + 3 Red LED ISSUE on Start up 2018/11/18 04:20:56 (permalink)
Hi
I dont want to start another conversation with this same issue.
I have 2080 FTW3 Ultra. Today morning I install X1.  Firmware update going sideways. X1 show me that 3 attempts was wrong and restart my pc. Now I have 3 red lights and middle fan on full speed.
I try MCU reset, I try BIOS switch. I try even full reinstall on Windows. And 2080_FTW3_E198 - showing me -  This device is not supported.
I send email to EVGA support. But its Sunday - so I don't think I will hear something till Tue. and I don't know do that state will not damage my card if I will be using it.

Any help ? Advice? How to push X1 to update firmware again?

Just info:

The state your cards in is the state it goes to when its waiting for a flash update. I found that out when the x1 flash put it there to do the LED flash and it scared the crap out of me... once its successful it goes back to normal operational state

So how to force XOC or X1 to start flash again? Bcs if card is in middle of flash that maybe is a issue with MCU update file not recognise my card.
Do changing PCie help in your case?

Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to that question. For that you need EVGA support to help.

On a side note support is 24/7 so if there is a fix already it should not take long to get it from them.

I didnt try swapping pcie myself because the fix worked for me using a local admin account.

I don't like some of the old baggage that a Microsoft synced account brings to the table.

I just changed the card to another PCI slot... made a clean install and I still have the same problem. Can't apply the MCU keep saying: "This device is not supported!"

Confirming. Changing slot not helping.

Do anyone who read this thread and have 2080 FTW3 Ultra (not TI) can upload his files from X1 Firmware folder? Or post names of that files?
If (as I read somewhere in this forum) one of step to fix X1 issues is delete all files from that folder... so if we put good files inside maybe X1 will "kick in" and finish flashing (ofc if 3red lights is flash issue)

I knew it was not going to work as soon as Asmodeusz posted that he did a fresh windows install. That is the longer way of doing the same thing.

Fresh out of idea's to try. I would have to mess around on my box to break it so I could try and fix it.. and well... That's what EVGA is for LOL.

I am sorry I could not find a solution. Hopefully they send a fix soon!

Oh well - time to put headphones and start some game. Atm my gpu is this same noise like old 980ti Hybrid on 2k resolution... so... Sit, relax and wait for EVGA tech guys.
And why oh why I want to install X1 - only to check cpu and clock in nice new graphic. Damn.

I had the issue when I updated precision x1 to 0.3.6. It requires me to update firmware, but failed halfway, and the three red led with full fan speed occured. I updated to 0.3.7 and it solved the problem.

I was also trying to fix that by installing older X1 versions - not helped. Waiting for 0.3.8.

EVGA support gave me (90.02.0b.40.89) and (90.02.0B.40.B6) BIOS for update.
I applied them but the MCU update still having problems: "This device is not supported!"
I am afraid that if this is not resolved in a couple of days, I will return the graphics card. It is shameful to spend € 1500 and have these problems. All because of installing the X1 Precision.

I must agree with you. If we all just stay with XOC or nothing. But no... We was lure by shiny X1 and trap behind.
If I only see info on website that X1 will replace my firmware I will prepare for that or stay away. But there is lots of adverts and some parts of information.

I must ask if you can confirm something for me are you by any chance hearing a buzzing sound similiar to video below when playing games and also are you running a gaming gigabyte mother board? I just got both the 2080 ti ftw 3 i bought and the RMA one i received and both are giving me the same problems still. Although i cant 100% confirm the light thing with the rma until thursday.

So its done.
I just received respond from EVGA. They open RMA case for me and I need to send card to them. Now I need to buy another cheap card to make possible to work (Working from home sometimes is pain in a..) Im little disappointed by EVGA. That X1 software I think is shot in the knee for them. 2 days for respond, 2 days for accept RMA, who know how long for replace. Eh....

EDIT: I return honour to EVGA :) RMA approved in 5min, address for send is in UK.
If they by mistake replace 2080 FTW3 to 2080ti FTW3 I will be happy customer ;P

I am not having any coil whine, that I can tell, and am using an ASUS motherboard. Best of luck with the new card.

BTW, very pleased with the customer support. I have been pretty bummed that the Pricision X1 sorta bricked my card. They are making it right. Thank you EVGA!

So after receiving my RMA card i decided to just to a clean install of windows and start from scratch just to make sure there is nothing other then precision x1 fresh install. So with a new windows boot i choose to start with my original 2080ti ftw3 and for the past 4 days not a single issue. No lights and no fan issue now. I only hear the coil whine, I will now be testing the RMA and see which has the least amount of coil whine. but just wanted to say that could be a profile or setting from either OXC or Afterburner hidden somewhere or it also could've been the most recent X1 that did the trick. but just wanted to inform others if they still dealing with the same issue.

So X1 update firmware/bios or not? Do card from RMA have already latest one? My card will arrive (I hope) on Tue - (660km from EVGA warehouse to UPS central in 36h - fk record in German UPS) so I prepare for - HOW TO DO - situation.
Zange can you tell us steps what you do? That will be just really a suicide for lots of us if we make again three red lights of death :)

Ok so basically i just reinstalled windows, that was literally only option I had left.
-I tried multiple differnt powersupplies, I even went ahead and ordered an EVGA 1600w as I have mainly corsairs psus everywhere.
-I reflashed it and updated the bios
-I deleted everything Overclock related software that i use to use for my 1080ti.(afterburner,OCX,ext.)
-I even had updated the MCU
nothing worked so i had requested an RMA.
I awaited for RMA and choose to just wipe the whole PC and start a new this way if it a software issue then i can just start fresh and nothing hidden can cause the problem. After I reinstalled windows and choose to test my original 2080 ti ftw3. I only waited two days without installing PX1 and no red leds or fan problem. I then tried PX1 noticed there was an update for its bios as it requested a flash of the card. and been testing it for two days nothing. not a single problem other then the noise from the coil whine when playing Assassins Creed Odyssey. I been playing with the overclock finally as well and seems ok it allowed me +124 which got me around 2000 number. Tonight ill be swapping to the RMA to see if the coil whine is just as bad. If it is ill keep my original and return the RMA if not ill swap.

I know it sucks to think of reinstalling windows as too big of a task but it can be the key to it all. Best of luck. Ill update through out the week.

Looks like I'm in the same boat as you guys.  This is stupid if cards have to be RMA'd just for a simple update.

You can still use the card but the noise is annoying. And I really have hope that evga should be able to fix it. Otherwise this can be exploited: open some 3d application, open precision x1, precision x1 proceed to upgrade firmware but report failure, close the PX1 window now your card will remain in firmware update mode and you are qualified to get a new card from RMA. Just want to put it out there if people are not happy with their card's overclocking potential. You can keep doing this until you get a card overclocks to 2200mhz. And evga please release an update to avoid this!

Also what does it say when you try to flash the MCU according to the faq post? Device not supported?
