I've had my 2080 ti FTW3 Ultra for just shy of 30 days. Everything's been working flawlessly until 2 days ago. Since then, when loading up The Division 2, Destiny 2 or Metro Exodus the game crashes on the first load almost every time. Subsequent loads often allow the games to play for hours, issue free. However, 1 in every 3 or 4 game play periods of around 30 - 60 minutes my computer will completely freeze up and then go to the BSOD in the image below.
I did some Googling and to my dismay, apparently this is a sign of a potentially failing GPU.
I've ensured the following:
- DDU in safe mode then completely reinstalled NVIDIA display drivers
- Running latest NVIDIA driver (419.35)
- Windows 10 is completely up to date
- No driver issues found anywhere in device manager
- Ran Memtest to ensure memory had no issues
I've actually followed Saijin's recommendation for trying to track down the culprit from poist #10 of this thread:
https://forums.evga.com/EVGA-Dark-IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL-random-BSODs-m2081179.aspxSo far it hasn't created any failure logs, even with 2 game crashes (No BSOD with that test running yet, though). I'm also not getting any sort of screen artifacting yet. But I'm starting to think that's just the next thing to occur in the chain of events. I'm considering a fresh Windows install but from what I'm reading, that doesn't seem to resolve it. Which makes sense if it truly is a failing GPU.
Here's the kicker... today is LITERALLY the final day of my 30 day return policy with Microcenter. I'm seriously thinking about boxing this GPU up and taking it back for an exchange before they close in 2 hours. I'd like to troubleshoot further but if this is my last shot to get a new one before having to deal with an RMA process, I'm thinking I might be very dumb for passing it up. Especially because it would buy me another 30 days with the new card to see if the issues persist.
Anyway, as I'm typing this I think I've decided to just box it up right now and go get another one. But I'm still curious to hear your thoughts on the matter and will be checking in on responses between now and when I get to Microcenter...
