It does not increase stability for overclocking. The extra power is supplemental to the PCI bracket power coming off of the 24 pin motherboard connection. The only purpose of the extra power was to alleviate strain from users having 3 and 4 GPU’s in larger motherboards, and drawing so much power it was burning out the 24 pin cable that only had a couple of pins supplying power to the PCI bracket. 3 GPU’s at 75 watts each was pulling 225w from a couple of pins, 4 GPU’s was 300 watts from a couple of pins. The 4 pin, or even the moped if you ever used ASUS) added extra power so the 24 pin was no longer getting strained and melted. At most, it would allow the PCI bracket to have less fluctuation and noise from the power going through the entire board, but I doubt it truly makes any difference. I still plug mine in because I do tend to use more than 3 slots on my board. I also use HEDT boards so that I can use more than 2 GPU’s. With 1 or 2, it won’t make much difference at all.
