i blamed my bad skills on a laggy pc and i have improved ever since my upgrade but the monitor never changed. Now with all this new horse power i still feel like its being wasted on a 60hz monitor.

i plan on playing competitive fps games and when i turn its blurry as hell.

money isn't the issue, but is the performance gain from going from 60-144hz worth it?

Yeah, I made a similar change. You get spoiled real quick.

As for G-Sync... I have it but I never use it, cause it actually doubles my frametime per millisecond when its enabled.

Actually, just turned back to 60hz and still here. Opinions, opinions

Edit: I'd like to open my opinion a little bit. I was in same situation like few months ago and back then i just ordered Benq XL-series which is pretty common in these things. I jumped from IPS to that thing, and was dissappointed all time about it. It was never good monitor, it was just 144hz. It isn't worth it. For my luck it broke down next week and it went to full service, and they sended fixed monitor which was pretty easy to sell.

TL;dr Get good IPS 144hz, such as Acers or Asus, do not get those filthy TN-panels.

Do it!! It's like getting an SSD, once you experience it you can't go back. I also agree G-sync is well worth it. Maybe wait a bit for the G-sync HDR monitors that just got announced: http://www.geforce.com/wh...35-inch-curved-monitor

It depends on what you play. If you play RTS games or games that are not reflex based you won't notice much of a difference.
If you play shooters (like BF1), racing games or any kind games that depend on reflexes you will want the extra frame rate and g-sync. It makes a huge difference.

If you want to stay at 1080p I would skip 144hz and go straight to 240hz. The price difference is only $150-$250 more.

1440p @ 144hz is the sweet spot though.

I have basically the same problem. I'll probably get a 144op, 144hz monitor though. Probably the best from both worlds.

Can you actually play games at 60fps and 144hz?

Or do you need to get 144fps in games for Vsync? Or 72fps, etc.

The only thing holding me back from getting a 144hz monitor is that for some reason, I thought you needed to make 144fps in games. Which my rig is nice, but cant do consistently.

Heck, I just started playing Dishonored 2 and cant even stand it. Game feels weird when playing and it has a horrible microstutter. Might just be that one game, but I don't think I could get 144fps without lowering settings.

That's the point and beauty of G-sync.  With it enabled - think of the monitor as "up to" 144Hz.  If the game is running at 118fps then the monitor will run at 118Hz - and so on.  It constantly varies the refresh in order to keep synced with fps.  It might sound gimmicky but I can tell you that it LOOKS great.  If for some reason a game starts at 60Hz I can immediately tell.

Even without G-sync you can still benefit from a higher refresh monitor like 120/144hz.  It just won't be as smooth and could have some screen tearing but you could fps cap in the driver to help with that.  I'd still take a 120+hz non gsync monitor over a 60hz any day.

    +1...

    I wouldn't get a 100hz+ display unless it had g-sync.
