I have a 13900K and Asus sets the PL1 and PL2 limits to 253 by default in the bios. I have read that the base power limit is 125 watts that Intel shows here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230496/intel-core-i913900k-processor-36m-cache-up-to-5-80-ghz/specifications.html

Should I set the PL1 to 125 watts and leave the PL2 set at 253? When leaving it at the default 253 watts for both, I start seeing temps in the 80's while playing Spider-Man Remastered. When setting it to 125 watts, I see temps in the 60's to lower 70's.

I currently have a small case (Corsair 280x) that only fits a 240 or 280mm radiator. I have the Corsair h100i Elite LCD. I'm trying to find a sweet spot for this setup for performance and temps, but I might eventually upgrade this system with a larger case and radiator.

If you’re not noticing a performance hit set it to whatever works best. How much power are you pulling on the cpu package in that game at default settings on the 13900k?

    160-180 watts.

Sounds like you need to go with 280mm instead of a 240.

I don’t disagree that if I want to use this CPU with a higher PL1, I might end up needing a 280mm radiator.

However, my 7950x actually runs at about 120-135 watts max in the same game and sits around 70c, give or take a couple of degrees (with a 420mm radiator). I’m guessing 160 - 180 watts would result in similar temperatures as the 13900k.

If I drop my resolution on the 7950x to 2560x1440 (native for this setup is 4K), I see a bottleneck. My 13900k setup is native 2560x1440 and does not bottleneck at all with the PL1 set to auto (253 watts).

I think the 253 watt PL1 is working to my advantage at 2560x1440. I’m glad that I put the 13900k in the lower resolution computer, but the 253 watt PL1 is going to run hotter. I’m still not seeing seeing any real thermal throttling with the PL1 set to 253 watts, it just runs noticeably hotter.
