I just bought the new PSU as a start to updating my GPU. I checked amazon and found "https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-PLATINUM-Crossfire-220-P2-1200-X1/dp/B00KYK1CKI". I received the PSU yesterday and noticed a couple of issues that in hindsight should have stopped me. This included the box seal being broken. Nevertheless, I continued to run some checks and everything seemed to check out. I sat the PSU outside of my case and removed components so that the only components include the PSU, MoBo, and the CPU to begin the initial run. After plugging everything in I turned the machine on, the computer cycled on then off. At this point I noticed a faint odor coming from my computer. At first I thought it was coming from the MoBo, but after giving everything some time to sit I noticed its the PSU. Now, even reconnecting my old PSU the computer is unresponsive.

Note: I have an LED display on the MoBo and the code output is 00 no matter what I do.

PSU: EVGA 1200W P2
Old PSU: Corsair 850W Silver
MoBo: MAXIMUS VI EXTREME
CPU: i7 4790k Devils Canyon

Questions:
Is there a way to check the validity of the PSU? (i.e. is there a way to check the s/n for EVGA authentic product)
The PSU is missing the '-X1' from the sticker on the PSU, the box does, is this another red flag?
Is it possible this fried the MoBo and the CPU or either one independently?

    Welcome to the Forum
Lets pray that you did not use the Cables from your Corsair on your EVGA Power Supply.
The SuperNOVA 1200 P2 comes with a tester, use it outside of you computer and see if the Fan Spins up.
Turn Off the ECO Switch when Testing.
I was the PSU Sold and Shipped by Amazon or from a 3rd Party Seller?

I actually thought about using the cable, but the diameter between the two is much different. The corsair is semi-modular so the CPU and MoBo cable were the EVGA ones.  I did not realize it came with the testing block, but the fans do in fact spin when powered on. I feel like this PSU has enough checks that the components shouldn't be adversely affected.

It was shipped by a 3rd party. This fact has been the most concerning as the watermarked seal was broken on arrival even though I paid for a new PSU. On inspection, the case look unused so I didn't think much of it.

The "watermarked seal" can sometimes beak lose in shipping but it cannot be Cut.
Did you register your PSU and Upload the Invoice?
Do not mix any Corsair Power Cables with the EVGA Power Supply, even if the look the same.

Yeah, I just entered the information. Would this even be RMA worthy? I can't even confirm that this is the work of the PSU. It just so happen to be the latest component when things went bad.

Your next test might be to pull the Motherboard out of the Computer Case and do a Bench Test on your Motherboard.
All you need is the CPU with Cooler One Memory Stick to Bench Test your Motherboard. You do not want to allow Windows to Boot.
It can be as simple as a MB Standoff that is shorting the MB an extra one that is that should be removed from the Case.
Use the Intel® HD Graphics 4600 on your Motherboard and do not install a Graphics Card on the Motherboard.
Then after you post to the Bios OK power down or off and add Memory or test each one if you like.
Once the Memory is found not to be an issue install your Graphics Card and disable the Intel® HD Graphics 4600 in the Bios.
Once the GPU tests out then you can add the next device you have but still do not allow Windows to Start Up.
After all your Hardware is working out side of the Computer Case then put it back in the Case Make Sure that the number of Standoffs are the same as the number of holes and location as they are on the Motherboard. Make sure no cables are being pitched and the Case Front Panel Cables are connected and not grounding out anywhere.

I can give it a shot some time tomorrow and get back to you with an update. I find the standoff being the culprit negligible given that the machine has been in a running state for a couple years now, or at least until yesterday.
