Hello,

I was recently given a 11G-P4-6391-RX as a present and it has been running flawlessly except for one game. Total War Warhammer 2 crashes my whole computer with weird artifacts or a solid color screen:

Again, this only happens with Total War: Warhammer 2 on the campaign screen. I run the benchmark in the battle sequences and it doesn't happen during that. I run the game on High in DX11.

I'm running a fresh install of 411.63 from when I first installed the video card. I'll update the drivers to the recent ones and see if that helps.

Thanks for any help!

Tell us about your computer. Power supply make, model, and age? Do you have any idea what the GPU temperature is when the artifacting occurs? Is the CPU, memory, or GPU overclocked?

Perform step #4, here. Does that make it stop acting up?

    Hello,

    Gigabyte Z97 UD5H
    4790 (non K)
    32GB RAM
    500 850 EVO
    1080Ti black non overclocked
    Corsair 850HX
    Dell U2417H Primary
    Dell U2412 Secondary

Nothing in my computer is overclocked. I'm not sure how to monitor the temps while gaming. I have HWMonitor and that doesn't show the GPU temps, although the case feels cool and the GPU as well when the crash happens. Do I need the EVGA monitor thingy?

I just used DDU in safe mode and installed the latest drivers 416.16 drivers for Windows 1803 update. I only install the Graphics Driver, not GFExperience and HD Audio, 3D etc.

After I installed the new drivers I loaded the game up and it crashed to a black screen. Well, I turned my second monitor on to see if it had the desktop and the primary screen flickered to the desktop, (like the GPU fixed itself and the computer came back to life) like an alt+tab. I went back into the game and a minute later it crashed to blue screen (which it wasn't doing before) with the error "Video Scheduler Internal Error".

Just to reinforce, this is only with TW:WH2. I've ran DOOM, Overwatch, Minecraft with 260 mods + Shaders and this problem isn't happening.

Do I need to downclock this card? It's not overclocked at all from what I've read.

    Thanks for the help (:

I've ran into this post over on the Total War forums, but alas, no reply =( htt  *ps *://foru*ms.totalwar.com/dis*cussion/2270 92/rain*bow-freezes-and-other-errors  (take out the * and spaces)

I would test the card underclocked. If the card works properly underclocked, it is probably faulty.

I'm not sure exactly how to underclock the card. I've never over/underclocked before and this is the first time using this precision tool!

I set the tool to -200Mhz on the Core and -210Mhz on the memory. I also put the power target at 85%. Am I doing this right? *nervous lol...

My Google FU says this is a widespread problem with that game. With fixes ranging from  wiping the drive to deleting and letting the game restore config files.  If this is the ONLY game that has issues then odds are it isn't your GPU but the game and Windows. SWBF II won't run for me in DX 12, now after updating to Windows RS5...it didn't cause my GPU to go bad... I suspect, given your description (and the endless threads on the net) it's a game/OS issue that you will have to find the magical combo that works.

That's fine. You pretty much can't do any damage with the software.  Just make sure while you're testing you don't have the program set to apply anything at boot. That way if something goes wrong, a reboot puts everything back to stock or default settings.

Thanks HeavyHemi, I've been reading those same threads now with putting more time into this bug. It's too bad this is happening =(

Anyway, I downclocked the card like the above picture and like ty_ger07 suggested and the game ran great! No crashes! I'm just having a problem saving profiles at the noted speeds so I can one click whenever I want to play it.

So, question: When I close the precision tool and made sure I clicked the default button before doing so, will the card run at default? I checked the settings to make sure it's not starting up with windows and not "Apply previous settings on load".

Thanks for the help. I created a new thread over on the TW forums to add to the existing "rainbow crashes" threads that people are posting all over. Not sure if adding to the pile will help, but at least it's another voice.

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it! I didn't want to RMA my card!
