so i jus got the card a while back, so i dunno if its a card problem or a driver issue, but im using the latest driver, and after a few min of gaming, screen goes black, keyboard/mouse dont respond, neither does the power button. there is sound tho.
win10, p9x79 le + 4820k if that helps
is this a known thing? does it have a fix?

    Does the issue happen on multiple games?

    should he maybe try and use a different Vbios (as in using the bios switch on the pcb)?

    Hello Fahadj
    Does one of the fans goes 100% of usage when the black screen happens?
    If so, this might be a power delivery issue on your card.
    Try reseating your GPU connectors, or, if your PSU is modular, try installing the GPU cables to another port of it.

    BlackShadow007 was having similar issues, that leaded to be a faulty power connector on the PSU.

    multiple games, yea
    i'll try the power thing tomorrow.
    something tells me this is temperature related
    what are ideal temps under load and max temps for the power/memory?

    this is a known issue unfortunately with the x79 chipset and countless pages on nvidia forums people are trying a bunch of different fixes i had this happening to me for the longest time even with 780 ti but never thought anything of it b/c it maybe would happen once a day but finally got fed up and did some research. What worked for me is setting power management to balanced and PCI express link state power management to "OFF". Not going to say it 100% fixed it yet but it's been 4 days without the black screen and only sound soo far.......but it is an issue with the x79 chipset unfortunately and i doubt there will ever be a permanent fix but we'll see.

    Here's a link to the forum post (edit: apparently i can't post links....). The post on the drivers forum is called "windows 10 Build 1607 randomly black screens nvlddmkm" it's on the front page. I just skipped to the last post and started my way back you'll see a few people with x79 and some of their fixes. They also uninstalled corsair link and nzxt cam software from their computers. I uninstalled both as well so not sure if that was causing it but i'll wait a week and if it all seems good i'll start reinstalling them.

    I don't know your temps, so I can't say it's temp. related.
    But, here's a post from another topic, from Sajin.

    Sajin
    VRMs = 125c to 150c depending on the components used. 95c is correct on the memory. 91c for the 1080 ti. 83c is fine. Increase your fan speed if you're worried.

    These are the max temps. allowed for operation of your components.

    If you're not using any custom fan curve on your GPU, then you should have something like this:
    GPU - around 70ºC to 75ºC is common;
    Mem - around 70ºC to 75ºC as well;
    VRM/PWR - 75ºC to 82ºC is common (altought I would rely on a custom fan curve, on the expense of silence, to keep all of these below 70ºC).

    For statement only, I'm using a x79 (Rampage IV Gene) for a few years now (over 5 years), and never had this issue related by DragonKin (came from a GTX 660Ti > SLI GTX 660Ti > GTX 960 SSC > SLI GTX 960 SSC > GTX 1080 FTW [black screen due hardware problem] > GTX 1080Ti FTW3 [no issues after 3 months using it]).
    Maybe this users from nvidia forums might have a bad chip/compatibility or something.

    Sad to read it =/.

    But, at least a new one will be coming, and without issues to be expected.
