Hi guys, I've built a small form factor PC in the phanteks evolv shift, and decided to chuck a 1080ti in it. Since it's an enclosed space, I lowered the temp target to 81 degrees, but in some games (PUBG and Witcher 3 are the main culprits), the system gets crazy hot but only on one area. Do you guys think that it could be a faulty temp sensor or maybe one of my fans not spinning properly? They all seem to be running but I don't know my the system is getting this hot. The CPU temps shouldn't be affecting the GPU temp as the GPU is in a separate "chamber" within the case, and is watercooled by a radiator away from the GPU.

Can you post a picture of the system?

The Complete Side View with the Side Cover Off so we can see how the card is installed and the Air Flow in the case.
This must be of your Computer not someone that is almost the same.

Wow.. that's the first time ive seen temps like that ever! Is there any air getting to the card and is the heat from the card being pumped out or just recirculated?

I'm always about big cases for good airflow.

Oh geeze...you're starving the GPU for air using that case.

True thermal throttling doesn't start until the gpu temp reaches 93c on the 1080 ti. Dynamic adjustment for the temp target doesn't start until you actually hit the temp target you set. Shutdown temp on the 1080 ti occurs at 96c. Max allowed temp for power is 125c. Max allowed for memory is 95c.

His title does say "High temps/not thermal throttling". So I think he's looking for ideas to lower his temps.

ACX cooled graphics card in a small form factor PC = heat issues

ACX does a great job of removing the heat from the card, problem is most of it is dumped into the case

Heat not removed from the case starts an ever increasing heat cycle as hot air is drawn back into the ACX and headed even more

Did you look at builds with that case? It's either blower or AIO.

I looked at quite a few builds in this case, and it was either this card (one of the only non reference factory overclocked 1080ti's that fit in this case, and just barely fit at that, and the only one available for purchase in Australia), or founders editions cards. Most other blower style cards didn't seems to fit. I'm thinking of ditching this case all together despite how good it looks and getting the the enthoo evolv mini ITX. I feel bad with a 1080ti sitting on my desk with a 15% down clock and it still hitting 90ish degrees every so often.

My brother got the same case as your and if I were you I would definetely change your case. For mini ITX cases the only type of GPU that won't suffer are: blower style GPU or mid to low tier custom graphic cards.

Your FTW3 is pushing hot air all inside your case and that hot air is recycled by your GPU again , increasing dramatically the overall temperature.

I never though someone actually installed the FTW3 in a tiny case, i give you credit for your courage mate ;) of course no offense intended. I hope sincerely that you sort out your problem as soon and as best as you can.
