What is the Motherboard? Which PCI-E slot is it in? How many graphics cards are you using?

Is your card in slot 1 the slot next to the CPU? Reset your MB Bios and I would also make sure you have the current Bios installed.
I also see that the PhysX Driver is NOT installed, you should remove all NVIDIA Drivers and reboot your PC and then Install the Driver and PhysX Driver and re-check. Any other PCIe Cards installed?

Is your Bios up to date? Go into the Bios and see if there's an option to change it from PCI-e 2.0 to 3.0. Also make sure your Motherboard supports a card that's 3.0. Also try it in another PCI-e slot to see if that fixes it.

is that with the card at idle? if so then that is normal. put it under some load and see if it goes to 3.0.

I have the latest bios updated and have changed the option from auto to gen 3, tried it in a different slot and its still the same. On gpu-z it does go to 3.0 but at x8 not x16

    Yes that the board

yeah I was thinking of it wrong. mine says x16 1.1 when idle and then x16 3.0 with any 3D load.

do you have anything else that could be using pcie lanes?

ye I noticed that PhysX was not ticked I will try uninstall the drivers.
I have an 950 pro m.2 that uses x4 pci-e but I don't think that should be a problem with the graphics card in slot 1

Also...if you click on the ? in GPU-Z , it will open up a rendering program that will load the GPU enough to show your correct PCIe link speed.

    Hi TUCC1

Go in Bios Advanced->System Agent Configuration->NB PCIe Configuration look for PCIEx16_1/2 Link Speed [Auto]
change  Auto to Gen3 save changes and exit.  Boot up and see if it's now running in  PCIE 3.0 x16.

changed the Pciex16_1 from auto to gen 3 and no change

It actually looks good the way it is now.  My motherboard shows something similar.
    At Idle it claims PCI-E 3.0 x 16 @ x16 1.1
    It jumps to PCI-E 3.0 x 16 @ x16 3.0 under load.
I think it is a power saving or TDP saving optimization built into the CPU.
Try running the load test and see what happens.

this was already discussed. it only goes to x8 under load he said.

#1 Try reflashing the vbios on the card. Contact evga via phone and explain to them that you need to reflash your card and they should be able to help you out.
#2 Check your processor to make sure it's functioning correctly. You can do that by running the intel processor diagnostic tool listed here. Make sure your cpu is running at default clock speeds when running the diagnostic tool.
#3 Try testing the card in another machine to see if the card continues to get stuck at x8 speed. RMA the card if it does continue to get stuck at x8 speed while running in another computer.

It's what it can run at. Just upload your pics to imgur.com and post a link. Put spaces in your link to make your link show up on the forum as you don't have enough posts to properly post links yet.

Try this go in your nvidia control panel. click Manage 3D Settings. Under Global Settings look for power management mode.
Change it to Prefer Maximum Performance and apply changes. Do a search for power options Click on it.  If your on Balance Performance click show additional plans. Choose  High Performance . Restart your pc see if your 1080 gtx is at pcie 3.0 x16 now.

I know it's obvious but have you tried re-seating the card? I had that issue once with my 780TI and re-seating it got it to show up properly.

Do you have stereoscopic enabled in nvida control panel? If you do it takes about 20 or 30 fps off. Make sure it's disabled.
Get the newest chipset for your motherboard. Download Intel® Driver Update Utility here http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html?iid=dc_iduu install it and run it. If it finds any new updates for the chipset download it and install it.

I would suggest now that you call Asus support with you're Asus Motherboard. Maybe at this point we can assume that you're Motherboard is defective. Maybe there's a setting in Bios or something that we don't know about.

I heard Asus support is bad. Hopefully your next Motherboard will be an Evga board.       =)

I have only used ASUS support once but it was great. Walked me through troubleshooting then gave me an RMA after all steps didn't get the board working.
