Would it be better to wait for next version of EVGA's 1080ti to hit the market?

That's probably either 2018 at the earliest, dependent what AMD does to 2019 for sure.  Usually every two years.

Have any prices dropped for them yet? I've just seen some videos on YouTube about the Kingpin edition

The Ti's don't usually drop in price not till after the next new chipset is released.  Usually you'll see the regular 1080s and such drop in price as they've already have but that isn't always the case as we've seen the GTX 1070's price jump because of high demand for them for cryptocurrency so it all depends on the competitive markets and demand.

I didn't mean price drop for the current 1080ti. I meant the price release for the Kingpin edition

For NON ti cards there are now some good deals available. The GTX 1080ftw can be had for less than half the original price. Sorry no links, just found that a few times while casual surfing. Seems no drop in  ti cards yet.
 
I was ripped off by Amazon when I got my 1080ftw last year. A few months ago I got the excellent GTX 1080ti FTW3 and it cost LESS than the ridiculous price I paid for the earlier card. This is Amazon Japan. The 1080 ftw was sold for 108,000yen. That's around 1,000$ US. I was stupid enough to fall for this trick. My ti was well under 1,000$US ordered this time from Amazon USA. Even with postage cost it was much cheaper than my 1080 from Amazon Japan. Those prices were just crazy. So was I.

You most likely bought it from a scalper or at least it seems.  Pay attention to whom the seller and shipper is.

In fact you are correct. Amazon just acted as intermediary. I was just so eager to get the card that common sense flew out the window.
 
Anyway, I won't let that happen again. Very silly of me I admit.

And on that note, you just got second hand warranty as the scalper gets the full 3 year warranty from purchase.  That's the other downfall purchasing from them.

Yep, I don't doubt that, although I didn't know about that. Lucky I sold it after 8 months or so of good use for a very respectable price - from my end that is. Heh Heh.

The 1080's are still being pretty price gouged by miners. My friend bought one for $420 used a few weeks before mining cleared stocks. Now it's hard to find one under $480-500. Only the 1080 ti's have somewhat stayed at their normal prices 

I have the Sc2 (3 fan) style aand I love it.  Temps dont get past 67 degrees under full load in my case.  My case would look even cooler with a gpu watercooled rad fan so I was thinking about swapping the cooling system but then I realized I don't even need it.  So stable too.  With how powerful these 10 series cards are I am thinking about getting a gaming laptop with a 1070+

67c, wow, that's the lowest I've heard so far under load.  I guess you have a large, and certainly well organized case/components in case!
I've read other posts here or I forget where, at least two other ftw3 owners said temps never went above 72/73c. Same as me, even with power at 121% and a 39MHz (3xbins) added to out the box OC running in any bench including firestrike extreme, it just won't go over that. That's with stock slave BIOS fan - no custom curve. (That was just a test), I've had no need to OC in any game yet. Always play at stock slave BIOS settings - no XOC or the like.  Very happy indeed. 67c is just amazing.

Not a lot of info around on the Hydro Copper, it does come as a proper AIO right? I.E. radiator with hoses etc...

No, hydro copper models are only video cards with full coverage water blocks. You have to supply everything else to use them.

where it appears he has a combination of the Hydro Copper and the 1080 Ti FTW3 fan/heatsink model. how is that possible? 
 
Can the Hydro Copper be brought separately to apply to an 1080 Ti FTW3 or we do we need to look to something like EK water blocks? https://www.ekwb.com/news...ce-gtx-1080-ti-series/
