All,

Previously had been using my 1080 Ti FTW 3 with a 4770K @ 4.4 Ghz with a NH-D14. Maximum load temps for 1080 Ti was around 70C. This was on the stock fan curve and no change to the card clock frequency or the like.

Recently upgraded to a 1700 @ 3.8 Ghz with a NH-15. Maximum load temps for 1080 now hit around 76-78C. Case, air flow etc. are all the same. Although the 1700 isn't running exceptionally hot, the NH-D15 is slightly wider (or the layout of my new mobo is narrower) such that the cooler is now much closer to the backplate of the 1080 Ti compared to the NH-D14.

The reason for my posting is that I am not sure if the higher temps I am experiencing on my new setup is on account of the CPU cooler now being much closer to the backplate of the 1080 Ti or if I might have damaged the 1080 Ti during the course of the system re-install.

To the extent anyone has experienced something similar or can otherwise comment, I would greatly appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Pic of the inside the case (or at least list the case, fans, fan positions and RPM's)?  It's possible the CPU is blowing hot air at the GPU but a 8C increase a bit much for just that.

It's also possible the GPU is running faster (higher load) because the CPU has more cores to throw ready-to-render frames at it. - Does it run hotter in every game/application?

+1.  Good possibility here (in bold), as well the the closer proximity of the GPU to CPU/cooler...

Thank you for the initial thoughts.

The case is a Silverstone FT-02. The orientation of the NH-D15 (and fans) is the same as the orientation of the NH-D14 in my prior build. I will upload pictures when I'm home again.

I've noticed the increase in pretty much all scenarios in which the GPU is placed under load. my use case is limited mostly to games and various benchmarking.

    Thanks again for the assistance.

How are temps with the case door off?

Temps drop by around 4-5C when I take the side panel off.

Guess that pretty much answers it. Time to increase your airflow.
