In the past month, I started getting hard crashes.  I isolated it and found that whenever the card exceeds 62C, I get a near immediate system failure and reboot.  No BSOD or faults/errors.  There are no entries in the event viewer.  No warning.. just hard reboot.

The card is about 6 months out of warranty.  I've found that if I put the fans to about 75% all time in a game via X1, I am able to use the card still by keeping the temps in the 50C range.

I bought this card directly from EVGA for like $800 when they came out.  This is the first time an EVGA product has failed on me.  Pretty disappointing.

Is this card soon to be dead?

You're around the time the TIM starts drying out and you can get voids in the TIM even with what look like normal temps. If you're comfortable, I'd disassemble the GPU give it a good cleaning and replace the TIM. Depending upon the condition of the thermal pads, you can replace those as well.

+1 this is good sign of thermal paste / pads looking like they need redone.

Let us know if reapplying the thermal paste helps with the hard crashes.

Believe it or not it seems to have been the PSU

I replaced the thermal paste in the 1080 ti. The issue persisted.

Then I replaced a 2013 silverstonetek 850 w with a new thermal take 850. All seems to be well. I guess 8 years for a PSU is a good run

    Fingers crossed.
