Well I guess the title says it all.
Been doing some calculation & I find it impossible to reach those points with my computers power. I got 3 computers in total.
I though that 1 computer would do it, but after calculation.....ok I need one more...NO, I need A LOT more.....NO I need super computers to reach the 10.000.000 points.
I don't even think that I can collect 50000 points with my 3 computers online 24/7. It is kind of embarrassing to talk about this & please don't embarrass me, I am an old man with low income. :P

I just wonder what kind of computers are you using in short drag, CPU & Graphic card?
Are you donating just 1 computer or more?

I got 3 computers
Laptop from Packard Bell I5 intel from 2014 I think

2 desktop computers
CPU i5-2500 HP desktop
Intel core 2 duo 95xx or something & graphic card GTX 760 something like that.

What kind of hardware do I need to reach the 10 million points in one month or sooner.

Well, currently I run several computers.  But you only need 1 recent CPU (Ryzen 3000 series or Intel Quad) and a 1650 or higher.  My twin 1080Ti cards put out over 60 million a month.  So any 1080ti class card running 24/7 can pull the 30 million.  Slightly better if you don't want that 24/7 lifestyle. The 1080tis are sitting on an Intel i5-4xxx (cant quite remember the exact model) with 16GB RAM and windows 10.

Isn't folding meant to help science and medicine? Also, those PCs are probably costing more in power per month than they would generate EVGA Bucks.

Any GPU older than a 970 does not put out much PPD & 10 series GPU use less power ..

Allot of people (including me) are motivated by this pandemic and want to help others. EVGA bucks do provide incentive also which is nice.

    Hey FAH- Hacker
Good to see you in the Folding community. Every bit helps.
To maximize your points potential, have you requested and set yourself up with a passkey from Folding @ Home?
It will take ten completed project "work units" before you start receiving the bonuses which can be much higher than the base points. We can see you've completed 2 wu so far. So your ppd will improve in a few days with a passkey.
Folding is pretty full on for your computer hardware, effectively pushing it at up to 100% 24/7. Some computers may not be designed for such intense usaged. Make sure your computers especially the laptop are well ventilated and cooled as they will get pretty hot.
In recent years Folding project types have been desgined and optimised for graphics processors. A highend gpu may produce 3 million ppd whereas even a large multicore cpu may only produce 300,000 - 400,000 ppd. As CPUs consume more electrical power to produce fewer points many people just focus on gpu folding. (There are other forms of distributed computing research other than Folding @ Home, that may be  better optimised for cpus. Check out the Crunching section in the forum).
Unfortunately, maybe, the hardware power of high end gpus can be very competitive, as with most disciplines, and with many contributors, EVGA has set a threshold for their team folding rewards.
There's lots of guidance already here in the forum. If you don't find an answer there, just ask. We've all been there at the start.

Nothing to be embarrassed about FAH-Hacker. You always have to use what you have. GPU folding will provide more points. And make sure you have a passkey entered on each PC/laptop, like BadBertie noted.

Thank you all for the great information, I will try to answer couple of questions.

I do have the same passkey on all my computers. ( I hope ) :P

My laptop is running on light, couldn't handle on medium.
My other desktop computer is running on light/medium & it can manage full, but the noise can be extreme.

Are you guys running on light, medium or full?

Please go to the fah site and request a pass key. They are 25 alpha/numeric characters and copy and paste it in to a text document. Then make multiple copies and spread them around or use your back-up plan. If I can hang on to my original pass key for 11 years, anyone can.
If you make one it might already be in use.
An RTX 2060KO can make the 10 million in less than 10 days and runs about $320. You may have to look into a power supply but maybe yours is okay. My i5 2500k and that GPU draws about 290 watts for the whole system.

Re: 10.000.000 points per month? 2020/06/04 17:46:55 (permalink)
Last year I've pulled 445Mil points the month, 44x your quota (17M PPD, and that was Core22 and Core 21 mixed).
Had I gotten only Core 22, my PPDs would have been closer to 500-650M Points Per Month.
And still there was this dude doing 1 billion points in just 1 week! More than likely a few banks of Nvidia A100 GPUs he had. (I suspect Nvidia test bench).

In theoretical terms, 10M PPD is a super computer for 2004.
And is easily to be gotten today with just 3 RTX2080Tis.

To get 1Bil per week, that would be a real super computer today.
The Nvidia A100, we don't know how many units they were running, but it appeared to be just 1 rack of them (8GPUs),
If I would build a new system right now,
Just invest in 2x cheap Ryzen 3600x with 2x4GB of DDR4 3600Mhz, disable SMT on them, cap them to 4Ghz, buy 2x X570 or X590 motherboards, and run them with 2x RTX 2080Ti. A $20 SSD is more than good enough for each.
That's about $800 for both of the systems (+ 2080Tis, which is about $4k for all 4 of them).

If you have patience, and you can wait a bit, and have a slightly bigger budget,
An X590 motherboard, 2x4GB of DDR4 4000 memory, 2x (upcoming) Ryzen 3600XT or Ryzen 4000 series CPUs, and wait for BIG navi or Nvidia RTX 3000 series GPUs.
Performance will be at least 25% higher, and so does cost. PPD should be about 33% higher than current top of the line material.

That means, if you can wait, 1400W of power could get you a system that nets you roughly 20 Mil per day (2x your quota PER DAY, instead of per month), but currently, 4x 2080Tis are limited to 16M PPD.

first post, long time EVGA forum stalker. I’ve been folding with what I can since about the end of March. I just passed the 5 million point mark and I haven’t ever seen anything on my  page about requesting a “pass key.” Is a pass key what enables one to use multiple rigs for folding under the original users name/ identity because that would be freakin sa-weet!?

The passkey get you quick return bonus points added to ever work unit you turn in
So rather than say 200k PPD you may get 1.5m PPD  "Just random numbers to show a point"
But it makes a huge difference.

Get the passkey here and like Yodap said make copies of it in different places.
Us it on every system you fold with, use the same name, team number and passkey on every computer you use to fold on

Turn off CPU folding altoghether. It doesn't generate enough points for the amount of energy and the heat it generates is massive, unless you have liquid cooling.

You definitely want your desktop's GPU running on Full (especially if you're not there doing any graphic intensive work/games on the PC) while you're AFK. The biggest problem is that it's 3 generations old. You may want to upgrade so you can hit the 10/30M marks. The 2060KO is by far the best option for a cheap upgrade that'll start netting you enough points for the full 10 EVGA bucks a month.

I would personally just not run the laptop at all, you'll do more damage to the parts & lifespan of it, with all the heat it's going to generate, than it's worth, trying generating you points.

Yeah, laptops aren't known to be very good for folding.
Even $1300 modern latops with mobile RTX GPUs could only get near to 1M PPD.

A quick fix is to swap that gtx 760 out for a modern equivalent. Say a 1060 6GB or 1650/1660. That should put you at least into 10 million a month. It really depends on your PSU in that desktop. I'd make sure it can handle the power load of a newer gpu.
