It will either take a solid 8-pin PCIe/VGA cable or a 6+2 pin PCIe/VGA cable from your power supply..Only use an adapter if your power supply doesn't have the correct connector.

    Do I use a 2X6 pin Y to 8 pin?

If that is all you have available, yes, that will work.

Preferably, your power supply will have a dedicated 8-pin or a 6+2-pin (8-pin) connector to use.  If your power supply has no variety of 8-pin connectors, you can use two 6-pin connectors plus a 8-pin adapter to create an 8-pin connector.

    EDIT:

Yes, of course.  Just use the 8-pin that your power supply already has.

Yeah, but just sure it's not an 8-pin CPU power connector..They appear similar but have different wiring..The connectors are keyed differently too..The proper one should fit easily, without forcing it.

I suggest getting a better more modern PSU with adequate cabling as old power supplies are rather inefficient
