Just put together a new build its z170 ftw with corsair 8gb ram x2. At first it would boot straight to bios and that was it. After messing around with a few things i realized it was a memory issue. I loaded up the xmp profile and now it wont even boot to bios i keep getting code 55. I tried in all the slots, i have a tripple checked the cpu pins and i have also tried backing off the cooler.

Help me pls

Just try one stick. I think slot #2 is your primary slot. If it still doesn't work try it with the other stick of RAM.

I would update the bios to the latest version.

That would be my recommendation once he is able to reach BIOS. There were some RAM compatibility issues addressed with the new BIOS versions.

In order to enter the bios again, you need to clear the CMOS before.

It doesn't look like you have a second BIOS to switch to but the BIOS chip looks to be easily removeable and can be replaced easily. Contact EVGA support and see if they would be willing to send you a replacement BIOS chip.

Could it be because the ram isnt compatible?

It is a possibility. Check the part number against the compatibility list for your motherboard. Sometimes the RAM manufacturers also have a compatibility list you can check. Just because your RAM isn't on a compatibility list doesn't necessarily mean it won't work it just means it hasn't been officially tested yet.

Its not on the list. Im more confused as to why it would boot to bios but after activating the xpm profile it wont boot even after clearing bios and removing the battery

What exact memory are you trying to use? Not being able to get back into BIOS even after clearing it and removing the battery makes me think that the BIOS chip might be faulty.

Corsair vengance CMK16GX4M2A2400C14. Someone suggested that maybe the xmp killed the ram hence why it wont go back to bios. Does that sound possible?

Well, it looks like your default memory slots are #1 and #3. For some reason they keep getting changed around. I can't find a compatibility list for your RAM yet. I don't think using the XMP setting will kill your RAM. The memory I am using isn't on the compatibility list for my motherboard either yet it works fine and has for years. Try unplugging your PSU from the wall to disconnect all power to your PC overnight. Also remove the CMOS battery too and let all of the charge drain out of it. In the morning give it another shot. Hold the button down to clear CMOS. Install the battery and do it again. After that plug everything in and power it up and see what happens. Make sure the power connector to the CPU at the top of the board is inserted firmly too.

What CPU are you using?  Have you checked to see if there are any bent pins in the CPU socket?

My motherboards were always 1 and 3 until this Z97 that switched to 2 and 4. Here's what your manual says, 1 & 3:

That's weird. I just looked at the online manual in the EVGA Products / Support section. Here is what my manual says about using 2 and 4:

I always had 4 sticks so it didn't matter until I bought two 8 GB sticks. I didn't feel like reading my manual so I used 1 and 3 and it worked fine. Then I read the manual and moved them to 2 and 4. They still worked. If it booted once in 2 and 4 there's no harm in trying those slots again. I wish someone would make up our minds where these RAM sticks belong.
