Later i will try for 2.2Mhz, air only. (with a pos Dell R4 Auroda case..lol)

I'd expect everyone to get the same and much better with proper cooling :)

Well that is an overclock but more most people that oc the 9 series cards get 30-50% on their overclock. I am at 1440 on both my 980 ti's atm. maybe the ftw and classified cards will do 2.4 or higher.

I'm not sure if running it at 2.1Mhz would go so well... 2.1Ghz perhaps. :)

Like to see some Fire Strike Benchmarks at 2.1GHz.

EDIT: Sorry, Evidently Missed the Benchmark Link.

OP, if using an EK waterblock, do you think it could hit more overclock room? Let´s say, about 2,2 or 2,3GHz on the GP104?

Temperature is the most limiting factor to your overclock? Or do you think that the reference PCB needs more power (ex.more Phases)?

I wanna know this, cause I´m willing to buy a 1080FE + EK water block. I like a lot to work with reference cards.

    Cheers

After looking at your benchmark, I had to go back and look at mine with my old 680 FTW. 3dmark.com/fs/7073613
Surprisingly, mine did slightly better with phyx. Probably due to using a dedicated physx card. Other than that, no contest. Definitely time for an upgrade. Can't wait to see what more people do with the 1080's.

In one word, yes. But without more power i'm thinking 2.2Ghz is the highest on this particular chip.

With the upcoming models using more phases, then yes 2.4GHz..easily.

And yes, temperature is my limiting factor at the moment, but i'm looking to get an aftermarket cooler to keep temps under 41C on full load, as under that,
and the gpu won't throttle down.

I'm curious why are you settling for the FE model?
[I'm only doing so because i'm stuck with a poor case (Dell Auroda R4..pos) and waiting to build my own
    next spring.]

But if the FE is your thing, then yes..for sure you will need the waterblock for high oc'ing.

    Good Luck!

My physx was low due to the 3820 cpu and not using a dedicated card.

Nice, 2,2GHz range should be sweet with WC temps, I've saw that GP104 is fixed at 1,25v, so no Voltage adjustments for now.

I really like reference designed cards, I have a silly theory somehow nvidia drivers run better with the original PCB:P....and since I live in a very hot country (Brazil), with room temps above 40ºC in the summer, hardcore WaterCooling is the way to go for me, add the fact that reference cards waterblocks are really easy to find.

They won't. You need LN2 for 2.4ghz. I called it from day one. everyone saying erma gerd the 1080 needs more power connectors...it doesnt do you ANY good on air. It's thermal limited long, long before power limited.
The AIB versions will do approx 100mhz better than the reference version and not much more. They will be bios flashed with a higher base and boost clock and have even less headroom to OC than the reference.

I totally doubt the OPs  1080 is stable at 2200mhz. it won't maintain that clock for a very long period of time outside of a benchmark at best unless he's on water.

I was thinking the same thing
Videos showing it can hit high level but start throttling after 10-20min
    Benchmarks only last maybe 10min
