It was never about us vs. them. Of course, they can tell you best on their own site. But the punchline is about the lack of communication and PG's unwillingness to listen to the producers.
There are many issues/viewpoints. But in the end this was what many had enough of... It is one thing to push your volunteers to build more productive machines for the project. However pushing out the Sony playstations and everyday computers from the mix (Points wise and worthiness wise) went to far. Instead of keeping pace with the natural improvement of the GPU's hitting the market, and or servers that most could build, they basically pushed for advanced multi CPU server farms.
When you build a project that focuses on "Points" instead of WU's, the results you see today are what they are. Some of the most important WU's did not get worked, and could have been worked by lessor machines, went un-worked because the "Points" became minuscule for those. And significantly larger for the farm type projects.
Many here on our own team, about two years before [H], had had enough. However the team strength and desire to still help outweighed the pure disappointment in PG. So we started crunching@EVGA for BOINC projects.
[H] already had a BOINC team and many of their producers decided to switch their efforts to BOINC projects that they could once again feel they can make a difference in.
