recently installed a new EVGA 980Ti on ASUS Z87-A MB

when i run speccy or rog cpu-id or valley-benchmark i'm getting 4GB mem value returned. this card is supposed to have 6GB according to the box and invoice.

does the "missing" 2GB popup on demand load or what?

btw: i [HEAR] now what other threads mean regarding the fan noise under load! that is a tad loud. ;-)

If it still reports less, upload a screenshot of the utility with the value so we can check it out.

You're running 32-bit apps or 32-bit mode.  Even DXDiag needs to be run in 64-bit mode or elevated to 64-bit within 32-bit client to see the full VRAM.

the apps, report main board ram at 16GB. that me a curve ball when they showed 4GB for GPU

i'm uploading 5 screen shots so you can see.  GPU-Z does show correctly the 6GB

thanks! the GPU-Z app shows correctly the 6GB

i'm uploading 5 images. the apps in question, speccy and cpu-z shows correct main ram value, 16GB. yet shows 4GB for new 980Ti card.  hence my confusion. i'll take GPU-z correct output.

Can't say whether or not it is the case for you, but I have seen cards report incorrectly when I didn't uninstall the driver and card before switching out to the new card.  I assume your previous card had 4GB?  It is almost like the value got 'stuck' in Windows.  Have you tried to uninstall the driver and card, reboot, power down, install the new card and then power up and install the driver?

Hasn't always happened, but have had it happen.

this time i did uninstall the GTX 770 drivers, sound, physx, all of them, then rebooted, then shut system down. then swapped cards and installed the latest from a download on EVGA site.

i too wasn't sure about the sequence and posted a msg to the board about it. then i finally opened the box with the new 980ti card, looked over the little pamphlet that came with it for install. i know, who reads those anymore. ;-)  it lists to uninstall previous drivers first.

you're right, the previous gtx 770 did have 4GB.

that's a good idea. i don't mind trying that, but i'll try that on the weekend. GPU-Z did report the correct value for gpu mem.  that leads me to think the other sw has some code that looks in other places or hasn't been updated with the new API for this card. two, that old value may be lurking in my registry somewhere, so i'll clean that up too.

your suggestion is noteworthy as i too prefer my machines to run clean eliminating any tiny glitch.  i'll report back after i try it this weekend.
    thanks

CPU-Z & Speccy don't show them correctly for me too. Must be a problem with those two applications.
