If I had an SR-2 I would love to "Unleash the Kraken". Going to enjoy watching the points if every SR-2 goes towards the Chimp Challenge.

I'll provide a little more background information for those that are unfamiliar with the Chimp Challenge or Folding@Home. First of all, Folding@Home is a distributed computing project through Standford University that studies protein folding with the goal of curing a range of diseases that afflict humanity today including: Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers. Its a worthwhile project to be a part of and from what I hear SR2 based computers are absolutely beastly at ripping through the projects work units. You can find more information about folding@home here: http://folding.stanford.edu/ and in the folding section on these boards: http://www.evga.com/forum.tt.aspx?forumid=69 Please take the time to check it out! If you're looking to get started, you can find a basic introductory guide here: http://forums.evga.com...gh=&m=973109 One thing you'll want to make sure you enable -Bigadv folding to fully unleash the power of your SR2 system. If you have any questions along the way, don't hesitate to ask - you'll find everyone in the folding section eager to help newcomers get up and running. A little more background info on the Chimp Challenge: 2011 Chimp Challenge starts on May 5 and is less than a week away! The Chimp Challenge is a fun contest between the top folding teams that takes place in early May each year. This will be EVGA's third year entering the contest. After a close defeat in 2009 we rallied together in 2010 and claimed our first Chimp Challenge victory! We're looking to make another strong showing in 2011 and defend our title and claim the prized jaded monkey as well as the accompanying fame, glory and accolades. This year with a new contest format the other teams are looking to take us down and need the support of every possible folder both big and small to retain our title as King of the Folding Primates! We sincerely hope that you will join us in our teams effort to increase our scientific output in May and raise awareness about folding in general. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Why you should participate: - Its fun and for a good cause!
- Help Folding@EVGA win the Chimp Challenge again this year!
- You will have the opportunity to win one of many great prizes

TPB, how many points is that machine putting out. Looks like I might be getting an SR-2 and would love to see the ppd of something similar to what I plan to put in the build. Also as long as everyone has fun and it helps the community, fold for anyone you feel like. Although EVGApes would love to have you folding with them.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. The remote session on the right is the Z8PE-12X with dual E5520's. [My sister's render box XD] Edit: I really wish F@H would get their rumps in gear and start writing better clients for AMD GPU's. My GPU PPD is pathetic :/

Thank you for the pictures. Have you tried running the v7 F@H client since the new core for AMD GPUs seems to have doubled from many of the tests I have seen. Also is running the GPU effective since you are taking away cycles from the CPU? Thought it would be more worth it to use just the CPU, unless you dedicate one thread to the GPU?

New client, eh... I will have to check that out. Although, the Tracker was supposed to take care of that because it downloaded the clients fresh. I'm aware that my PPD can go down if I don't reserve cores for the GPU client. I'm experimenting with 23/22 to see what gives me the best PPD. The screenshot above is with 23 "cores" [ ] active. Hopefully the PPD for the Z8PE will go up once it moves onto a bigadv switch WU; been doing dry runs to see how I fair. I also spent a great deal of time today getting the GPU client working. Turns the GPU in my sister's box isn't detected unless a monitor is attached; and there isn't a forcegpu switch for gt200 GPU's.

Glad to see two SR-2s from farthestkris have made the CC. I think with everyone on the boards here putting their best in, even with the different challenge, we will be able to repeat last year. TPB, I thought you would know about the GPU client, just wanted to make sure. As for the Jedi's Tracker, I thought he said it was not really set up for v7 since there are changes with the F@H client (have not read the thread for a few weeks though). Weird that the GT200 do not have a forcegpu anywhere, but at least you figured out the problem instead of be in a state of confusion.

GPU Tracker does not work with v7 client. The new folding client is a complete rewrite that is intended to make things easier, like Tracker has been designed for with older clients. With this new setup, Tracker, and many other 3rd party solutions, needs to be completely rewritten to work with v7.

tedster59 you use forcegpu g80 for GT200 also. I did try that at first, but I got nothing but [MACHINE_UNSTABLE] returned WU's, however, I suspect there's more to it from what I saw. Whatever the case, booting with a monitor attached solved the problem and the client handles the GPU detection just fine. Le sigh, guess I might as well bring out the stops for the CC; V7 here I come. Thanks for all the tips fellas, really appreciate it. I'm used to just running SMP by itself for the while I'm at school--never tried running the GPU clients for very long. (Roommate would get pissy from all the heat ).

What drivers are you using on that 260? If they are really old, then you need to have a monitor, or dummy plug, hooked up to it. With newer drivers, you can go into nVidia Control Panel and on the Manage 3D Settings section there is an option called CUDA - GPUs, just make sure it is set to All and it should work fine without a monitor hooked up to it.

The first thing I did when my card wasn't detected was to grab a fresh copy of the latest drivers. [270.61] By default it would appear that CUDA is enabled; I toggled it off/on to be sure it was on. Now I'm inclined to start making dummy plugs; I have more than enough electronic refuse lying around to make one. There's still a couple of days left until the CC; so I'll have more than enough time to work out the kinks. (Albeit this headless issue is most annoying ) EDIT: I need to start taking some of my own advice: "RTFFAQ". I guess Remote Desktop and F@H GPU clients do not play nice together; which I had been using to control the headless machine--and it's right on the FAQ page. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-NVIDIA .

Got any extra cycles on that server of yours that could add to the folding?

Hear ya...I'm sitting in a room flanked by 3 PCs and the current room temp is 80.6. My wife won't even come into the room until Chimp Challenge is over. I told her that I'm slowly turning into a CPU that seems to feel at home in high heat. I got no argument from her on that note.
