Just decided I would inject some AMD in here.

I have been for a long time now a hopeless AMD Fanboy ranging back from the x486 days. Ever since Nvidia first started making chipsets that have been used on AMD boards I have bought them. My first real powerhouse being a K8N Nforce 250 in 2004, and over the years updating with the times, the Nforce 4, 5, 750, 780, then 980. I just thought I would come in and share with you guys my pride and joy.

The rig I call Defiant, in its fifth revision. Since Nvidia no longer produces chipsets, I have dubbed it "The Legacy of Nforce"

Specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Cooled by Zalman 9900Max 135mm
PNY GTX 480 SLI
Asus M4N98TD EVO
Kingston HyperX T1 DDR3 2000
Thermaltake TR-2 850
Coolmaster CM690 (Painted red, the color of speed)

Benchmarks:
3DMark Vantage PPU: P36189 http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3105615
3DMark 11: P9423 http://3dmark.com/3dm11/1025047

Thanks for looking.

For those of you who may wonder it took a while for Defiant to get here!

Back when Defiant only had 9800GT SLI and a Phenom II X2 550BE and a M4N72-E 740a SLI

    Later followed the move to a Coolmaster CM690, some G.Skill DDR2-1200mhz and a Phenom II X6 1055T

Again after some time, the GTX400 line has been out, I snagged myself up some GTX460 EE's a newer Asus M4N98TD EVO 980a SLI, some Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600, and a Corsair H50, as the Zalman 9300-AT was just a little small for the job.

Then the final result, the monster in the OP!

Getting ready for water. SLI is disengaged, pulled out one of the GTX 480's and started cleaning it (need to clean the Vram some more)

I will be modifying the case, I will attempt to mount a 360 rad internally, Failing that, it will be external.

Very sick paint job on the case!  I painted mine as well, but didnt come out NEARLY as good as urs! (though mine was in the style of graffiti, was trying something new).  Cant wait to see what u do with the water, but that 480 SLI looks slick in that case.  Great Job!

Thanks, I'm waiting on the waterblocks still and I'm an impatient man. I still need to order the fittings, rad (or rads) and pump. I'm pretty much at the OC limit for my CPU due to my board. AMD wasnt given a very good power delivery system for the AM3's most only got an 8+1 phase setup, when you would start to OC the memory that last phase couldnt give enough juice to keep up.

I plan to pick up one of the 990FXA-UD(X) boards which are all 8+2

I thought I would regale all of you with the tale of the AMD that started it all. The Socket 754, I was a proud owner of such a chip, still to this day it plods along as a media device long retired from active gaming. I've done my best to take care of it and almost everything about it looks as new as the day I bought it. (back in 2004) So while I wait for all of my watercooling parts to arrive, I thought that it would be nice to show off the rig that started it all (for me that is)

Don't feel bad about the box fan, lol, at one point, in my older system, I used to have my Stanley blower fan on high, blowing right into the front of my case.  It was really loud, but dang did it ever keep that thing cool!  I literally saw a good 20+ degrees Celsius difference in the CPU, and a little less than that in the GPU (had 1 of my 8800GTX's in that PC at the time, before I was able to get all the parts for my current main rig).

Just as any other form of art, modding is a passion, not just a hobby.  We fawn over it, we love it, we hold it near and dear to our hearts, we are passionate about it.  We are modders, and we are artists.
Also, if you like any of the advice I give, please recommend I get a BR, thanks!

Well you finally abandoned the legendary NForce tis a sad day indeed. I will probably be doing the same and getting a 990FX board soon myself but probably gonna stick with MSI last 3 boards have all been MSI.

voltage drop is higher then I like, I have alerted Gigabytes tech support about the issue. Debating returning.

I'll be returning the UD5, I pulled it out and stuck the EVO back in to test the voltage required for the exact same job. The EVO has more drop, but remains stable at lower voltage. If I dip below 1.36v under load @ 4ghz on the UD5, it throws errors, however the EVO drops to 1.34v and just keeps on ticking.

So here is a direct comparision of the two.

    UD5 @ 4ghz Idle 1.475v in bios 3/1000ths Drop

    EVO @ 4ghz Idle 1.475v in bios 31/1000ths Drop

    UD5 @ 4ghz Load 1.475v in bios 83/1000ths drop

    EVO @ 4ghz Load 1.475v in bios 131/1000ths drop

OK after talking to Gigabyte I'll run the UD5 up till I have to decide to keep it, or return it (another 20 days to decide) and see if the board and leave me with a happy feeling, that or if subsiquent bios releases improve voltage regulation.

In the meantime, its looking a might sexy.
