The 2011 Chimp Challenge (CC) kicks off May 5, 2011 and runs through May 15, 2011 (10 days) - so we've got a little (but not much) time to get organized! The CC is an inter-team folding competition to claim the prized jaded monkey and all the accompanying fame, glory and accolades.  This marks Folding @ EVGA's 3rd year in the competition!  Coming off a rough first effort in 2009 we were able to rise to the top and handily win the Chimp Challenge in 2010.  Now we are back to defend our title and reclaim our rightful place among folding primates! This year we face our toughest challenge to date as a result of a change in the contest format so the participation of every team member is vital!  Sign up today and spread the word to folders everywhere!  You can find more information on the format of the CC in the official CC thread here

Here is how you can participate in the 2011 Chimp Challenge:

1) First, you must re-configure all your folding clients before May 5, 2011:
  • If you´re already folding for team EVGA, all you have to do is change your username to EVGApes before the contest starts on May 5th.  If you´re also folding smp/bigadv WUs, see the further info below.

  • If you´re already folding, but for a different team and want to help us (thank you, very much appreciated), change your username to EVGApes and team number to 111065 before the contests starts on May 5th.

  • If you are new to folding, we extend a warm welcome to you!!  The fastest and easiest way to get folding is Jedi95´s gpu tracker. Have a look in here and use EVGApes as username and 111065 as team number.  If you have any questions or issues do no hesitate to ask.  You'll find everyone here quite friendly and eager to help get you up and running!

  • Do not worry about points lost for EVGA's Folding Bucks Promotion - Shane's got you covered.  For more information see "EVGA Bucks Promotion Amnesty" at the end of this thread.

2) Sign up here and let us know you're folding with us!
  • In order to qualify for the prize drawing you must be officially registered (more info on prizes forthcoming).
  • You can view who has signed up already here.
3) Prize Info:
  • You can find more information on winning or donating prizes here
  • You can view a list of prizes already donated here (donations began 4/18/11)

4) SMP/BigAdv Passkey Info:

  • To get the bonus points for your smp clients (regular and bigadv), you´ll need a passkey. You can either use your own (but have to qualify it again for EVGApes) or one of our pre-primed, so that you get bonus points right away. Everybody that still has one from last years Chimp Challenge, you´re good to go, those are still good.
  • Please contact one of the following persons to get your copy of the passkey:
    • Punchy
    • mflanaga
    • AcesofDeath7
    • Rjbelans
    • Barbarossa

EVGA Bucks Promotion Amnesty:
Shane has confirmed that EVGA will once again this year continue to award their EVGA Bucks Folding promotion at the normal rate for all CC participants.  What this means is for example, if you normally make 400,000 points a month and earn $10 EVGA Bucks but only produce 250,000 points under your name due to participating in the CC you will still be awarded the same $10 EVGA Bucks.  Note: you will not receive any EVGA Bucks above what you typically receive in a month and the point gap must be relatively close to what you would produce in approximately 10 days of folding.

I just signed up for CC.  I do have one question though.  If you say that you need a passkey when you sign up will someone send it to you, or do you still need to contact one of the five listed?

    I wouldn't miss it.
I'm not doing bigadvs at the moment, but I still can. I'll switchover in early May and plug in the passkey from last year's CC. When I go to back to bigadvs and turn on additional rigs, I should nudge my PPD up a decent amount from the current 25K/day.

Just to clarify, the team can provide pre-primed passkeys so that I can begin turning out bonus qualifying bigadv's from day 1?

Would I be better using a teams passkey or should I switch and set one up this week to grind out 10 wu's so that it is ready for the 5th?

I just want to make sure I don't cost the team any potential points by messing this up.

It's your choice on how you want to do it. PM one of us, and we can supply a passkey. The added security the team passkey has is if you end up failing a couple of wu, you have a very slim chance of going below 80% completion. If you are on your own and fail a couple, you could easily drop below 80% completion.

BTW. I'm in. I'll fill out the form later, when I figure out just how many PPD I'll have. Should have the new W/C FTW3-980X-Dual 590 up by then, just a few more parts on their way this week..

    Khody,

With some help from Troy this afternoon, as I understand it now the main reason you would want to use your own Passkey is if you are doing SMPs/Bigadvs with bonus points and you wanted to track your own contributions to the EVGApes during the Chimp Challenge.  If you use the pre-primed keys (which is the simplest method) your points go into the collective EVGApes pool under that pre-primed Passkey.

On the other hand, if you want to be aware of your individual contributions to the challenge, then a self-primed situation using the EVGApes UserID and your own Passkey is the way to go.  If you have a stable Folding environment and a fairly powerful rig, priming 10 WUs can be done in just a couple of days.  The priming effort still get's Stanford's Folding work done, so nothing is lost in that regard.  So, all you really lose are the value of those primed 10 WUs that go into the EVGApes bucket, and you gain the ability to monitor your individual contributions to CC via your own Passkey.

I think I have that rightly understood and if not, someone will correct me I'm sure...

Same I am going to be adding 2 more 8800's.
One of them thanks to kmoore.
Got the place for them just getting to parts now to make another complete folding rig.

Gonna name it the 88 blazer since it is going to only be using 8800 gpus lol.

Same I am going to be adding 2 more 8800's.
One of them thanks to kmoore.
Got the place for them just getting to parts now to make another complete folding rig.

Gonna name it the 88 blazer since it is going to only be using 8800 gpus lol.

Could call it the Blast Furnace.

I have signed up and hopefully I can talk the wife into another GTX 460 1371-TR or AR before the CC starts.

I can do about 40,000 PPD avg with my current setup (if I don't play any games, which I won't during the CC)

Signed up, first time in this challenge the handicap is what made me jump in this year.

I'm good for around 20,00 PPD but I think I will dust off an old 8800GT I have that's good for another 5,000 PPD.

On another note, I recall last year (I believe everyone with a forum user ID) received a personal message in their in-box to contribute to this challenge (sorry I don't frequent the forums very often so I missed it last year), how about we do the same this year to get as much contribution as possible with handicaps imposed this year???

On a separate note, I believe last year there were prizes that were given out for those contributing, will we have the same this year?
(edit) never mind, found the CC prizes list here
    https://sites.google.com/../evgacontests/cc-prizes

I may be willing to contribute some item(s).

    Can we donate EVGA bucks???
