Hey all, just got myself an SR-2, a pair of x5650's and 6 x 2GB OCZ 1600mhz memory. I put it all together on my test bench, using a CoolerMaster UCP 900w PSU with the 2 x 8-pin CPU power connectors and also the additional 2 x 6-pin PCIe connectors which are recommended for the overclocking. It posts fine, see's both CPU's and the 12GB ram, I ram memtest on it for a few hours and seems fine, installed windows 7 ultimate x64 on an old HDD and it see all 24 threads and 12GB ram fine, I then updated the Bios to A50 with the motherboard Bios switch set to position 1, done a reboot all is good in windows so ran IBT (IntelBurnTest) 2.5 for a while to stress it and it was fine I thought time to play with the overclock now so I used Shimano's guide on here but EVERY time I 'save settings and exit' the SR-2 basically ignores my overclock settings and just comes up with the stock 2666mhz speed rating, Ive got it set to 191x20 to make 3.8ghz to start off with but like I say it just doesn't seem to apply it? I tried setting Bios switch on the SR-2 to number 2 which obviously uses another chip running an older Bios and so I set the overclock in there to see if it was the A50 on setting 1 that was stopping it, but again it ignores my overclock and still clocks up as 2666mhz. Any ideas? I tried turning on 'Dummy Overclock' (whatever that is supposed to do) but made no difference, help!!

Thanks for that bud, I have seen you reply in another thread the same but others think that it should show up in the Bios?! Anyway I will leave the overclock as it is and boot up into windows and see what CPU-Z has to say and go from there...

The below quote from another thread suggests that what you said isn't actually right, it doesn't make sense, can anyone else confirm that the OC settings show in the Bios post screen or not?? flecom no, they are not, CPU-Z will read what the settings are supposed to be... windows and the BIOS are not lying to you... I can set the bios to have an FSB of 300MHz (which obviously will not work) and CPU-z will report 300x18 or 5.4ghz... obviously the CPU's are not running at that speed additionally before when it was posting at 3.6ghz I was getting about 110~120kppd, now I am getting 52kppd... so its not fine

KONAn is absolutely right. The bios will not show your overclocked frequencies. You need to use Eleet or CPUZ to see those. You can also look for the Windows 7 "Turbo Boost Desktop Gadget" by Intel if you want to see your true frequency as a meter on your desktop. http://www.intel.com/supp...ssors/sb/CS-031038.htm

OK so it seems to be working, been playing the last few hours and have achieved so far a reasonably stable overclock @ 4.2ghz and even that "Turbo Boost desktop gadget" shows im hitting 4.2ghz although, the bios boot screen and windows think its @ stock 2666mhz lol, strange one that, more bios improvements me thinks!!

The seems to fly now, been stressing it with IBT & LinX playing with voltages and got the cores down to 1.27500v @ 191x20 with turbo on hitting 22x making 4.2ghz in Windows 7 x64
