Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm new to hardware and I finally upgraded to a nice computer (or so I think it's nice) from old school computers. Only down fall is it needs a video card and probably a bigger Power Supply.

Question 1:  Galaxy Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB for $50
He says it has no problems and he upgraded to a Nvidia GTX 460 FTW.
http://www.galaxytechus.com/usa/productview.aspx?id=98

Question 2: I got my computer for $325
Pretty much brand new, built a couple of months ago and most parts have a 2-3 Years Warranty left. The guy is a manager (11 years) at Intel and says if I have ANY problems he will fix it.

Specs:
ZalMan Z7 Plus Case
MSI H55-G43 MotherBoard (based on Intel H55 chipset)
4GB DDR3 Ram/Memory
430W Power Supply
Core i3 Dual Core 3.6 Ghz Processor
500GB Western Digital Blue Hard Drive
Samsung 22x SATA DVD Burner
Windows 7 Ultimate

Edit:
I think I covered everything.

Yeah I'm looking into a few, I have a thread posted in the other section. If I get that video card, I will need to upgrade my Power Supply.
I have like $2,000+, but right now I'm trying to buy a Jeep Wrangler. So I'm on a low budget, but really honestly it just depends. I have a few I posted in my other thread at the bottom I'm interested in, but I want Feedback first. :/

If you have a regular sized case just pop a "juce box" in their to power your card and don't look back.

For a psu, I recommend a corsair 600watt gaming series. I just used one for my new build.
For a video card, (I am more of an ATI fan) get either a 5770 or a evga 560 or 460.

seabigbear - I can get a HX1000 for cheaper than that on E-Bay, but in the other thread, they stated I shouldn't get something that big for a little computer and if I did to go with the AX1200.

Alucard666 - I found cheaper TX's on E-Bay too, but was told once again not to go with those ones. lol
I like the AX850, but doesn't seem to have reviews as good as the HX650 and HX850.

john2571 - Yeah, in my other thread I'm looking at an HX650 and HX850, but looking for opinions first. :/ I unfortunately do not like ATI Video Cards for some stupid reason.

    Edit:
I love how no one is telling me if the computer is a good purchase and if the video card would be a good buy. Haters!!!!

    john2571 - Good, that's what I wanted to hear! :P haha
I usually only play Counter-Strike, but I might down the road or something get into other games. I tend to go back and fourth playing Counter-Strike. I get bored of it because I've been playing so long.
Otherwise I just use the computer for the internet, downloading, researching, ect... My whole idea is I just want a nice fast computer for once and something I don't have to look at upgrading down the road.

seabigbear - Wasn't bad? That doesn't sound to good now. :( I don't think anyone wants to buy an old slow computer from here, even though I have it sold. I'm actually still using my old computer, because I'm having a problem installing Windows XP Pro on the new computer. :/ I have a E-Bay Addiction, always getting good deals on there.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any of this stuff on ebay, unless it was an authorized reseller ebay store. There are way to many bad deals there. I would only buy from ebay if I was putting together an inexpensive computer I was going to give to a relative I didn't like.

You got a good deal, but i would get a better graphics card than that. Atleast a GTX 460. The 250 is really old now and is pretty much a 9800gtx.

seabigbear - Oh no I was just messing with you. Why wouldn't it be a good buy for you? Yeah trusting people from the forum is always better and there is no fees. I haven't had a problem with E-Bay and been buying off it for YEARS.

rcranfield - Yes there is, I completely agree, but haven't had any problems yet.

john2571 - Yes that's my MotherBoard. I was thinking of upgrading, but I already have 1 4GB stick in it. Those video cards are EXPENSIVE! haha Warranty sucks too.

Monst3r - Yeah I kind of figured, that's why I wanted to ask. I was planning on ugprading to a Good Video card and a Power Supply, then I should be set. Since I don't do much anyways. Just having a hard time picking a Power Supply.

What if I can get the HX650 for $90 brand new, local?

I recomment either getting 1 great video card or get 2 smaller ones. You will find soon that your video cards will be more than you entire computer in pricing lol.

Id recommend getting a decent 850w powersupply, then if one day you fancy going SLI you will be covered. and in the long run saving money.  If you get a 650w you will be pushing it for SLI.

Also a 560Ti would be nice, it will be good for current games and in the future can get another for SLI.

Its all about looking forward and saving cash in the future. By spending a little more now, your pc will last longer, and you will be able to upgrade on the cheap, without having to change major parts.

    Re:Good Buy? 2011/02/26 14:54:35 (permalink)
seabigbear - As less as possible, but I don't want to go cheap and regret it. I mean I guess I could wait, my main concern right now is I want to get the computer running, since I crashed Windows 7. Video card can wait, since I've been without one for like half a year now.

john2571 - That sounds like a crazy setup. I'm going to add another fan to the side. Otherwise it has 2 fans on the side, 1 in front and 1 in back. The one front is LED, I want to change it to red and I want to upgrade the two on the side to LED and a little bigger fan.
I was thinking of upgrading to 16gb's of ram, but do I really need that much for the little stuff I do? When I do the "Can You Run It?" and test it on Bad Company 2 (seems to be the one that takes most), it runs it at max with no problems, so it says. I just need a video card. haha
Yeah I must say I'm a cheap ******* and try to get deals left to right. I think I'd rather go with 1 single good Video Card.
I don't use much hard drive space, maybe 60, but I'm curious what the "colors" mean?

aleximo - Yeah I know what you mean, it's exactly what I was thinking. What will SLI do, like I'm kind of confused on it. I know it's faster, but I didn't know Power Supplies have them. My laptop has SLI Video Cards.
So what one would be better? I was thinking of just saying **** it and getting the 850, but what one. I like the reviews and 5 star rating of the HX.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking of doing, gather stuff I need now and just save up for it. Then down the road if I need to upgrade. I would rather have an Evga product, but I have no real reason why. **** even with just a small video card now, it'll last me a long time and I will be fine. Like I said, it doesn't take much to run anything I do, but would be nice to be like hey I got a nice fast computer, blah blah or whatever happens down the road. haha

    Edit:
I forgot to mention that my computer is running 24/7. Something quite would be awesome, but doesn't matter.

I am someone that doesnn't turn off their computers to (haven't shut off my Imac since I dot it 5 months ago). If you want a fast machiene (you don't need 16gigs, if anything 8) that is also quiet go with solid sate drives and large fans(larger the fan, usaualy the quieter it spins). You said you only need 60gb of storage? If I was you I would keep the drive you have then get a 40gb ssd for programs/os like I did and wow is it FAST!! As for the colors, wd has the blue, green and black series. Blue is for everyday use, green is junk(don't buy), and black is for high proformance.

Good, I'm glad you're on the same side. :) So just get another 4gb matching stick and call it good? That's why I wanted to get a bigger fan for the sides, even though the computer isn't loud now, but I haven't put it under preasure yet. I can't get it up and running yet. :/ I don't need, that's just a rough idea of what I store on my computer. The 500GB Hard Drive is more than enough and I'm fine with it. I have 4 Flash Drivers (1GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB).

Your lucky that yours is quiet, mine sounds like a lawn mower chopping up wood! Your computer isn't starting up? When you first start the computer, hold down whatever key it says to hold down in the instructions manual. Then enter BIOS and configure your settings(read thhe manual although it may be the only manuual you will ever read). After it is configured, set it to boot fron your optical drive (for me I needed to go to boot then boot priority, then set the optical drive). Save and exit bios. It should restart then put windows in the optical drive and fallow the onscreen instructions.

In reply to what you asked me:

    - SLi is adding a second graphics card for better performance, for example say you had 1 video card and where getting 50fps in a game, by adding a second one to a spare PCI-e slot, you could get say 80fps, it varies from game to game.

-By getting a good power supply, you are future proofing your self in case you do add a second graphics card so that you have enough power for both of them.

-The main reasons for buying EVGA products i find are the customer support, which i find to be the best and step-up. Apart from that its just "fanboyism" and i find nothing wrong with that.

-I do not have a corsair power supply myself but have heard very good things about them, i have a cheap AKASA one, and wish i had splashed out a bit more, it does the job, but feel i could do with something better. I learnt the hard way, so its good that you took the time and asked advice. If you are not bothered too much about what your pc looks like inside id go for the Non-modular TX850 because of the price.

** also if i read correctly you where installing XP pro. If you plan on having any more than 3gb of ram, then make sure you go 64bit preferable windows 7 64bit in order to recognize it all.

    +1000 to John's recommendation.

I dont understand why everyone is listing such overpowered, overpriced Psus for your rig, seriously...that's just ridiculous.

You only need a 500 watt Psu for that setup with a gtx250
(although Id skip that and get a gts450 instead , better card , better efficiency and DX11 compatible)

Just get a Corsair cm600 and you'll have plenty of breathing room, plus its on sale for $49 after MIR

john2571 - Na, sorry I said that wrong. It has Windows 7 Ultimate and me being mean. I ended up screwing it up and can't recover it. I don't have any Windows 7 CD's what so ever and don't want to go buy it yet. I went to try and install Windows XP Pro, but wont work under my normal CD Driver. I usually use my External one anyways. After it loads all the files, the screen goes black, then comes up with the Blue screen full of bull****.

aleximo - Can't you run SLI Graphic Cards without an SLI Power Supply? I do want a better Supply, just for the future. I think 850 sounds reasonable. What about their Warranty? It seems theirs is better than others. I guess I'm just a name brand type of person.
I don't have Windows 64 Bit and I knew that it wasn't going to read all 4gb's of ram, which I'm okay with it. I can get 64 it, but a friend said it's stupid and pointless.

RBIEZE - Yeah that's what they were saying in my other thread, well for anything bigger than an 850. I was going to say, for Bad Company 2 and multiple other games, it says I need a GTX 260 or better. I'd rather just go some what big and then be good for a long time, if needed, buy another one for SLI.
Wouldn't it be better to get a bigger PSU than a 500 for the future refernce?

    Edit:
I didn't realize it was a 600. That seems VERY reasonable price, but I'm still thinking it would be better to just get a bigger one for the future. Opinions Opinions. :D My computer nerd who I used to game with a lot said I should get the GTX 580. lOl

Your friend is wrong, get the 64bit windows, YOU MUST run 64 bit  O.S for anything more than 3.6GB of system memory to be used/ addressed .

Tell him to stop recommending things he clearly doesn't understand..

If your going Sli then your needs will be dictated by the cards you choose, i know thats vague , but its the truth...

Jump on that Cm600 I listed, you can always sell it later for what you pay.
$49 is an uber deal for a high quality brand name 600watt Psu!
