I'm new to OC'ing and I know as much as I've read on these forums. Below is my spec and I would like to OC the CPU to 3.2GHZ - ( 3.0GHZ if 3.2 is not possible).
I have 9 fans and a Zalman cooler.
What should my bios settings be to start with?
Thank you for your help,
Muradi

I see that you entered the GTLV settings next to your CPU Core settings in your template. Are you sure the following settings is correct?
    tRFC: [AUTO] 160

    tRFC
I do not see this value anywhere. It really is not reported in my bios. So 160 is a guess.

You are running a very old BIOS version, if it is P05.  I suggest that you flash to the latest BIOS version, which is P10.  The BIOS .iso file can be found above through support.  Make sure that you download the correct motherboard BIOS.  I would flash using the CD method.  I also advice you to burn the .iso file at a slow rate i.e., 1x or 2x, and follow the directions of the flash process to the letter.  If the following link is to your RAM, part of the problem is probably the voltage of 1.5v. http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=197  After you flash your BIOS, and clear your CMOS, please try the below settings:

    Thanks!
I'm very much a noob at this so I'm going to apply these settings as you say, hopefully I get back with good news.

You are welcome.  A word of caution.....please follow the BIOS flashing directions exactly.

Followed the instructions step by step. Everything seems fine at the moment. Using IntelBurn Test to verify.

Once tests pass, what values do I keep tweaking and by how much?

Should you pass the ITB, the settings I provided should be good to go.  You could try your memory at 1.60v since 1.50v is the manufacturer's recommended voltage, but some folks have a lot of issues running the lower voltage RAM on the 790i series boards.  That is why I suggested 1.65v, along with the fact that you are running 8GB of RAM which normally requires a bump in voltage.  Personally, if the system is stable, I would leave the settings as they currently are.

The only issue is that my cpu speed is still showing 2.5gHz . I checked it with Real Temp, Everest and in Windows. Also double checked the bios values and they are all retained. By math, that seems unpossible. What would cause the cpu speed to display still the same?

That is not an "issue" because, you are still running it at the stock rated 1333Mhz and it should be showing 2.5GHz at this time. Just keep following VistaHeads' instructions and he will get you going.

+1  If you want to OC the CPU, I suggest that you purchase higher frequency RAM so that you can run linked and synced.

agreed. Vista's BIOS post up there looks like it should make you 100% stable at STOCK speeds. If you want to OC your CPU your best bet for better stability at higher OC's will probably include getting faster (and higher voltage... say... 1.8) RAM..

Shouldn't he already have higher voltage 1.8 ram? I thought that was a must....

Generally speaking, it is. but there are always exceptions to the rule. ( someone was able to run 2x4gb sticks on 790i board... and is probably the only person that has) all hardware is different. if he can be stable with lower voltage ram then he is one of those exceptions. but these boards dont like it when you dont let them feed the ram more powah... if he cant get stable he will have to buy higher voltage ram. and higher frequency ram as well if he plans to OC

I was able to OC to 2.6 (from 2.5) and be stable.
I bought the ram when I had an older CPU, it was suitable for that one, but looks like I'll have to upgrade for any further OC'ing.

Sent you a PM, I got the green patriot viper ddr3 2000mhz 2 gig kit. No longer need it.
