Hello, I just bought a new 460 GTX. I have the latest driver 266.58. My 460 wont use more than 20% of the clock at default settings (default clock )while playing any game. My FPS is very low even on low settings. I have tried with COD: Black Ops, TF2, cod 4, starcraft 2. If i over clock by 7% or 8% my max GPU usage becomes roughly 18%. This leads me to believe that my card is only using a small fraction of its resources. Any help with my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Alot of people report low gpu usage in games, my self included. Most of the time it ends up being the cpu being a bottleneck. From what people here have told me the cpu feeds the gpu. So if your cpu doenst have the power to do so you'll only get so much out of the gpu. I run sli and sometimes my gpu usage is in the 60's, however if I pull one card my gpu usage usually stays in the 80's to 90's. Thats all that I know, even though you only getting 20% does seem really low......Anyone else have anything?

I had a 460 with similar problems running with a Phenom 2.3 GHz quad core. I was refusing to say that the CPU was the problem - I finally convinced myself that it was by doing some benchmarking. I do think this is a case of underpowered CPU. Run the Unigine benchmark - my scores at 1024x768, no tesselation (all others default) went from 1050 to 2400+ by upgrading the CPU. Usage went from 20-30% to full usage, and FPS in games (BC2 mostly) went from 15-30 to 70+. Short answer: post unigine benchmark results. Attached are screenshots of the benchmark - went from 2.3 to 3.4 GHz processor.

+1 on this note. I had to do this with my work pc (would not run BFBC2 very well with my E8200). Its amazing on how much more cpu power is required to run these new gpu's
