Thanks for the update Jacob, while it's not really useful to me, to others it most likely will be

What about the latest jmicron? Dejanh's modified bios had the latest jmicron too. Also are you going to be working on getting the latest raid rom? cause this isn't the latest. Thanks.

    Thanks

Updates the on-board Intel RAID option ROM to 8.5.0.1030 from the old 8.0.0.1038 option ROM.  It provides better support for SSD drives and other drives in general when running in RAID configuration.

This update was available in my modified BIOS a few days ago.  If you want to get this and the latest JMicron option ROM you can find my modified BIOS based on official 78 release in this thread http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=814581

We already knew that 8.5 is interchangeable with 8.0 with a simple /release  and reinserting the rom using cbrom. Personally i was expecting one of the newer roms to be inserted, and evga spending a little more time then the 5 minutes it took to replace the rom in all the x58 bioses. As time passes it seems that this will never be possible , without a complete redesign of the structure of the bios, and unfortunately evga does not seem willing to do so.

So when are we getting RAID ROM ver. 10.1.0.1008, Jacob? And other optional ROMs updated?
RST 8.5.0.1030 was released 1 year 3 months ago. This is when BIOS 78 should've been released - in 2009. Not 2011...
Besides, a member of this very forum beat you to this release.

Can you please give us some more information about the subject? ETA? "We are working on it"? "It's impossible" (I know for certain it's been done by other manufacturers)? "We tried everything and we think it's not worth it"?
Any information is very much appreciated.

P.S. Considering issues Sandy Bridge is facing, many people may very well look into buying a 1366 setup within the next few months. Solid BIOS support would make them consider EVGA. I think it's worth it.

Sorry, there is simply no more ROM space left to incorporate version 10. We have looked into it extensively and do not have a solution yet, we continue to look into it however.

    See below...first 64K RAID...

    ...next 84K RAID...

I'd say it fits just fine, 64K of compressed code space left.  Problem is that the offsets are all broken now because of different size of the two option ROMs so the new ROM won't load correctly and exits with an error I posted earlier in this thread.

That is from the modded BIOS thread. I suppose you've missed this post. There IS enough space. And in fact, 64K free left.
    zalbard
    Found some info.
The "PNP/PCI compliant BIOS not installed!" error is basically saying the OROM is invalid, 'cause only the first 64Kb of code are being loaded into memory.

We need to find and analyze the code responsible for loading the OROMs.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do that, but I know that Gigabyte should have fixed that limitation when the RAID OROM was updated to a larger one.

It seems that only Phoenix-Award BIOSes are affected.

This is my post from 77 BIOS thread. I did some research. The issue is common. All the manufacturers had to go around this. Even some 5 year old motherboards are getting 10.1 RAID ROMs.
I am sure your P67 boards are going to be using 10.1. You just basically need to port the loading code from their BIOSes to fix ours.
There is space. It can be done. And we are looking up to EVGA to do so. Please don't let us down, guys.

P.S. If for some reason this space is still not enough I'd happily trade my JMicron BIOS ROM space for an updated Intel one. Not everyone uses JMicron anyway, and you can make an alternative BIOS with no JMicron ROM, but proper Intel RAID ROM. But as far as I see the space is there either way...

I've added this to the BIOS Changelog for the E759 Classified Limited Edition Board (<-link), in case you want to check out the notes and links for current and past BIOSes, both official and beta (Twenty-six of them and counting...) for this great motherboard.

There are varying performance improvements and stability/reliability improvements from upgrading.  Further to this, the newer the RAID ROM for SSD drivers the better.

Yep and keep bugging EVGA about it. We paid a lot for these boards and I think we should get a fix if other motherboard manufacturers were able to provide their customers.

"If it aint broke , fix it until u brake it then fix it again". OOOPSS .. what I meant is "if it aint broke don't fix it"

Seriously ... if ur running fine then i would leave it alone . Or a least let it lay for a while and let some others do the testing !!!

dejanh To give you a bit more info there are two types of space when it comes to BIOS and what it can and cannot store and run in terms of option ROMs.  There is BIOS code space and executable option ROM code space which gets used at run-time.  There is a *slight* chance that the executable space is what Jacob is talking about however as other manufacturers with the same Phoenix-Award BIOS were able to work around this I have no doubts that EVGA can as well.  Further to this, disposing of the PXE ROM would not affect anyone so that is an option unless the new Intel RAID ROM inflates past the 128K executable space limit which is basically impossible.  Further to this even, I have already tried disposing of both the JMicron and PXE ROMs and that does not affect the ability to load the newest RAID ROM at all.  Therefore, I am extremely inclined to say that this has nothing to do with BIOS code space or the executable code space.  It is simply a "limitation" of the current BIOS that can be worked around in the same way other manufacturers did.
    I emailed Jacob about this.

PXE ROM is indeed a better idea.
What about the executable code space? I suppose that's not a part of 628K with OROMs and all the BIOS code?
Either way I can't see how there can be not enough executable code space, this board doesn't have tiny BIOS chips, and it's not exactly the richest board there is feature wise... Even IF that is true then, considering the fact that 10.1 OROM isn't much bigger than 8.5, I don't see why we can't trim some less important stuff down in order to get it to work.
Because this latest Intel RAID OROM really is a crucial thing.

I'm running a RAID-0 config with 2 WD blacks for gaming and running a raptor as my OS drive.  Any benefit from flashing to the newest drivers for me?  I hate flashing my BIOS period the whole having to yank the cord before it reboots it kind of annoying/scary.

Here is a quote from a post I made here back in November 2009 in regards to BIOS release S22A:

"I'm sure by now you've all noticed the new BIOS release today, and maybe you've even updated already. I certainly have, because I wanted to see if EVGA included the latest or at least a newer Intel RAID Option ROM to fix the 2TB partition limit that version 8.5.0 and (presumably) earlier versions had. I haven't tried to create a new partition larger than 2TB yet, but I find it very strange that EVGA actually downgraded the RAID Option ROM to version 8.0.0, which is the very first version that Intel came out with over a year ago. Can anybody from EVGA shed some light on why this was done?"

So, for those of you who haven't been around quite as long or simply don't remember, we already had this very same RAID Option ROM 8.5.0.1030 in our BIOS two years ago. In fact, all of our boards initially shipped with it. Inofficially, we were told back in November 2009 that going back to the very first version 8 ROM Intel ever made (8.0.0.1038) was due to a bug in 8.5 that would not allow creation of raid volumes larger than 2TB (not talking about bootable volumes here).

So, my question is, if there was a bug in 8.5, why go back to it now after more than a year? Don't get me wrong, I applaud the effort here, but understand that Intel shipped their initial X58 board with version 8.5, and that was in September 2008.

Well more fuel to the fire. EVGA has to find a way to get the newest ROM in these boards. Even if they have to rewrite the way the bios is or remove a feature of two. Get it done EVGA.

Due to demand for a newer BIOS ROM, currently this is the newest we can implement.

For users who want over 2TB array's, the previous BIOS versions are still available with 8.0

Man I always thought EVGA was the next thing in motherboard features, guess I was wrong.

dejanh did something which EVGA didn't want to do for almost 3 months. Only when customers are starting to "complain" than they will make a change.

Maybe change is a big word, since dejanh did exactly the same thing. And not to mention the ROM provided by dejanh has more updated features for example the JMicron ROM. Oh well... Guess I was to late to jump on the great EVGA bandwagon 2 years ago...

Currently disappointed with EVGA. Why not fire some "technicians/developers" at EVGA and hire dejanh instead? He seems certainly to make improvements, instead of going backwards...

EVGA used to be a great company (I've been a customer since early 2005). But after 2017 it went completely downhill. EVGA doesn't treat customers as customers, but as complete idiots! I used to own over 30 EVGA products (videocards, motherboards, PSU's and so on). Not anymore. #evga #pathetic

Honestly, this whole deal with EVGA being so unwilling to stand by their products via updates is really starting to upset me.  Look, I might not have been an active member of this community/forum for a long time, but as you can see from my profile, I've been an EVGA customer and lurking these forums for 6 years now!  It's hard to sit here and watch the EVGA reps make completely unbacked claims of impossibilities regarding BIOS limitations/support, when other more reputable (at this point, to me anyway) companies have been able to sort this out for their customers for friggin' MONTHS now.  IMO, EVGA is being lazy and complacent at this point, knowing that they've already gotten nearly all the money to be had from from x58 customers.  they see that x58 is nearing the end of being the king of the hill and they're jumping ship!

This is a piss-poor business model, if you ask me!  Sure, as a tech company you always want to be looking to the future, but if you push away all of your current customers, don't you think they're gonna create a negative wave for you on their way out (by way out, I mean way to ASUS) the door?

Not to discredit dejanh in the least bit,, but it's honestly PATHETIC that a forum member, no matter how tech savy, not only beats you to the punch, but PROVES how utterly innept and WRONG you are about your own BIOS architechture.  Then, in the midst of becoming completely discredited by the "little guy," you put out in a matter of minutes a JOKE of an update with even MORE excuses simply to save face!

All I have to say at this point...  dejanh, you are without a doubt, THE MAN!  EVGA, you guys might have just lost 6 years and THOUSANDS of dollars worth of my business to a company that doesn't have problems figuring out their OWN architecture.  Personally, my next system will be entirely ASUS based, and I will have to apologize to EVERY one of my friends that I have turned on to EVGA over the years for being so utterly wrong about their products and service.

Sorry, but I'm personally one customer who can't be won back at the moment...  go ASUS!

    Amen to that brother.

I was a DFI user in the past, at first support was excellent and after a while it's starting to turn into crap and now they are bankrupt (or only active in the server market). I am starting to think EVGA is going that the way as well... At first their were updates every few weeks.

Nowadays you have to wait almost 3 months until something gets updated. But that's after dejanh took some action, otherwise there wouldn't be any updated ROM at all.

On the 20th of January Nick (from EVGA) answered me the following and I quote:

We had updated the status in the forum thread. Unfortunately there is not enough room to upgrade the RAID ROM.
    Regards,
    Nick

And a few days after that dejanh showed otherwise.

Oh well, I guess EVGA is just pushing new products and trying to earn some quick cash. We, as "older" product users, have just bad luck.

Unfortunately, looks like I'm stuck with the old BIOS version for now since my RAID is > 2TB.

Hopefully we can go to a newer version than 8.5 soon...
