I just bought the EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI Motherboard,  and I have many spare NVIDIA NVS 295's laying around, so I get the bright Idea to put four in the motherboard and boot up. hurray! works like a charm they show up in device manager and work, this allows me to have 8 monitors ... but then I say why not put 7 in for 14 monitors it would be awesome! I try to boot, but the post errors out and I get 7f code on the motherboard?

does theEVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI Motherboard not support more then 4 graphics cards? if so how do I go about making this work?

thanks

Jacob

Rig specs coming soon...

Can you tell me about your PSU ? 7(295) would require 680+6(289)= 2414 Watts per nvidia, Since a 295 is a double card they would need to be Water cooled to be single card installs, adding multaple pumps and Rads, 2414W / 110V = 22 Amps.  amps, Plus the watter cooling equip and monator, seriousley doubt a dedicated 30A could handle the load. espicaly when you consider PSU effecency loss as well. also belive windows is limited in # of supported GPU's to 8,

lol xD your thinking the wrong 295 look at this link here

no that would be nice, but this would just be a setup for me to have many monitors for my VMware Farm, and Hyper-V cluster.

If I had the cash and the space, that would be quite the achievement, but that is almost unrealistic. anways to answer your question here is the current parts

currently It is just set up in a test bench but I wanted to understand if it is even possible or if my board is bad? if i move the 4 cards from slots 1-4 to 4-7 it posts but then i get motherboard code "8F" and it sticks on the JMicron Technology Corp. screen saying "Press any key to continue ..." and it just wont move

*****edit***** Changed motherboard code to correct code , the one that repeats consistently.
any clue on that one *****edit*****

An update on my situation. so far I am in the process of an RMA because it appears that my 5th PCIe slot is dead all other slots work, once I get new board, I will test and let you know. the EVGA rep on the phone told me it is verified that it will support 7 cards, but I will see for myself once It comes in.

    Until then ...

    Hello,

the Motherboard supports up to 7 GPU's.    a single card with 2 gpus would count as 2.   therefore up to 3 gtx 295's would be supported.  any more than that can cause conflicts or issues.

Initial RMA is done now, so far I am in deep talks with NVIDIA and EVGA both L2+ level tech support to find out why this may or may not work so far I have spent a lot of time working on this. ( testing every card in every slot to ensure that all cards work in all slots!!!!! anyone good at permutations??? I cannot count the amount of reboots and boots into windows that took to validate that and run a stress test on each slot / slots. thank god for SSD's. ) so far EVGA has been much more helpful than NVIDIA. but I will keep everyone posted and try to update with pictures and such, but at this rate it may be a while. sorry guys. just a hunch, at this point I think we are leaning towards NVIDIA being the limiting factor but I wont jump the gun. more in about a week I hope

Thats to bad one of your PCIe slots isnt working correctly

The 4 Wasy Classy has been the best Motherboard I have ever owned, and I also use all 7 of the PCIe slots: four GPUs and Three add in cards that are PCIe X1, X1, X4.

Hope you get everything worked out

Well the day has come for me to inform you on the results...

and it is sad News after many hours of configurations and testing multiple cards and many hours on the phone with both EVGA and NVIDIA. ... It does not work with more than 4 Quatro cards. "no way to make it work" at all was the quote I was told. Now "supposedly" 7 GeForce cards work and I was able to Jury rig it to work with one catch. Most graphics cards I have (and I have a large selection to play with) paired with visually looking at many cards online and from friends, come to find have too large of mounting brackets on the back of the card to successfully fit 7 cards in a row without warping something or not trying to not bend the cards. Even using some with passive heat sinks have plastic tabs that come out just a little too far. Yes, a dremel could fix this but at this point in time I was working on proof of concept, I may revisit this in the near future to actually run 24x7.

This was odd so I went to google and purchased some PCIex16 extender cables (http://www.orbitmicro.com...p-15074.html?ref=base) to mount the cards else where (similar to fastra II http://fastra2.ua.ac.be/) and give me the slack needed to run it for a bit.

Needless to say this project wont turn out like I originally hoped due to lack of support from nvidia and a general "it is not officially supported" from EVGA which kind aggravates me since when I started to do this project I specifically asked and was told it is possible and was done by someone at EVGA, but them not supporting it is odd since I was told it was in one of my original conversation with them, which is what sparked me to purchase this board. Either way i'm not mad but I will have to figure out a way to get my setup to work the way I need. ;-) when the solution is not apparent try and modify again. I just may have to go to ATI and eyefinity to get that amount of massive screens to work using only 4 dual wide GPU's only con is I don't have any laying around to test and I hear the adapters cost arms and legs ... oh well back to the drawing board. Ill try and post pictures of the random setup trial and errors sometime soon.
