Randomly the video card drivers won't load when Windows boots.  If I install the drivers again it fixes the problem while the computer is on.  Then a few boots later the same problem happens again.

This appears to be a software issue.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most recent drivers.  Is there something else that could be causing this?

Ok.  The issue is getting even stranger.  Now I can't even select SLI in Nvidia control panel.  It allows me to select which GPU for Physx but it doesn't show SLI as an option like it normally does.

This is very strange.  I checked the SLI bridge and reseated the cards as well.  Still the Nvidia control panel does not show SLI as an option but it does show I have both cards installed.

I just reinstalled the drivers again without removing them first.  Now SLI is an option in Nvdia control panel!

What the heck is going on????

I just rebooted and sure enough the drivers didn't load again.  I really hate driver issues like this.
I just googled 260.99 nvidia drivers and sure enough I found many posts about issues with SLI GTX 460s.  I am downloading 260.89 now.  Hopefully that fixes the problem.

Well I installed 260.89.  This time I chose custom and did a "fresh" install.  I also didn't install the HD audio drivers since I am not using the video card for audio.

It still seems quirky but I rebooted three times so far and it loaded the drivers properly each time.  I hope 260.89 works for now.  I can't stand driver issues like this.

Where can I check what version chipset drivers I currently have installed?  I am not use to Windows 7 yet and I am having a hard time finding stuff.  lol

DOES NOT MATTER, JUST DOWNLOAD THEM FROM EVGA or Intel (sorry bout the caps) and install. just make sure it's x58 if you download from intel. heres evga download page for it....   http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2

To me sounds like an issue with your RealTek Network Drivers.
    Yea I know sounds dumb.
Give this a try with the 260.99 Drivers. It may fix it, it may not. If it doesn't just revert to the ones that are working for you.
I wrote that guide after I had the exact same issues you were. RealTek does have drivers out now that works with SLI, but there website sucks when it comes to navigation and finding what you want. I did get the latest in a windows update. so you may want to check your windows update to see if you have any.

that was my next thing to try if the chipset were not installed properly or older ones. +1

I just installed the chipset drivers just to be safe.  I am still using 260.89 though.  260.89 seems to be working so I think I will just stick with that for now.  It appears 260.99 isn't the most stable for SLI setups.  I will wait for the next set of drivers to be released.  I don't feel like chasing down driver issues for countless hours.

If I start having problems with 260.89 then I will try what loveha posted next.  Thanks guys!

i dont know about the 460's but for my 480 sc in sli the 260.99 is the best.

i can only assume you did a clean install and ran driver sweeper.....

I did not use driver sweeper.  I did chose custom and did a clean install though.  I didn't install the HD audio drivers though since I am not using HDMI for audio.

ok here is what i do for a clean instal of any video driver.

(download the latest version of driversweeper)

go to device manager and unistall the display drivers.
then reboot into safe mode and run driver sweeper
reboot into safe mode again and install driver. then reboot and configure.

you want to clean out the nvidia display and physx in driver sweeper only and yes do not install the hd audio bundled with the display driver. this will fix your issues. run the latest drivers as well. 260.99

Ok.  I started to have the same problem with 260.89 drivers.  I checked Nvidia's site and saw that 266.58 was available.  I downloaded 266.58, unistalled 260.89, ran driver sweeper to remove all Nvidia drivers, then installed 266.58.

Everything seemed ok after the first restart until I restarted again.  Sure enough the video drivers didn't load again.  I then reread this thread and checked windows update and found that there was a realtek update.  I installed the update and restarted and the video drivers loaded properly.

I hope the Realtek update fixed this very annoying problem but if it didn't what else could be causing this?

    So far so good.

I was hoping someone here would post with a similar experience but I guess not.

Using the newest Nvidia drivers and the Realtek Windows update seems to have fixed the problem.  I hope that problem does not happen again.

So far so good.  Hopefully the Realtek Windows update has finally fixed this problem.  Thank you Loveha! I don't understand why a network driver could effect video drivers but that appears to be the case.

Well it has been a few weeks and so far no problems.  It appears the realtek windows update has fixed the problem.  Awfully strange that a ethernet driver update would fix a video driver problem but that appears to be the case here.

    Thanks again loveha!

I had the EXACT same problem you did, using the same motherboard but GTX 580's instead.  Drivers would not load at windows startup, using the latest Nvidia drivers.  In my case doing a clean install  of windows seems to have fixed the problem.  I wish I would've seen this thread first though, because updating the network drivers would have been a lot more painless than reinstalling EVERYTHING.
