That issue is because of the version of the VMPlayer you are using does not support 8 CPU's.

But don't worry as you can not use the VM image anymore.  BigAdv is not on linux anymore.  You need to just run teh normal windows SMP client and use the smp and bigadv flags.

You got the wrong version of VMware player. But I suggest not using it anymore anyway. Old news.
What CPU are you using in your folding rig?

That thread and/or title needs changing to indicate it's obsolete.  Can a mod make that change?

Executable download here (bottom of pink area of page :http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

    Install guide here:http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuide

I would run -bigadv if you're willing to OC that 920 to 3.8GHz or higher, otherwise run it in smp mode. It's all in the guide.

You should get rid of the VMware program completely.
(Sorry for the double post but me edit function does not always function while here at work..)

Launch automatically, install as a service in this directory (yes/no) [no]?
If you want the client to run as a service, say yes and it will install a new entry in the services list. The next time you restart the computer, the service will start automatically and run in the background. SMP as a service is only supported in v6.30 and newer.
Note: The current Windows user account must have Administrator privileges to install FAH as a service. And rebooting the computer to start the client running as a service is required.
Do I put yes or no?

this is why lot of people give up to fold!
USE the Tracker, set CPU folding, put specific cores to be used, check enable bigadv, set all you parameters, (pass key, user, team etc) and thats it!!!!!!!!! SO EASY!

    Additional client parameters []?
You can enter the client flags here so you don't have to type the flag each time you run the client. We strongly suggest you enter the -smp Do NOT enter -config or -configonly'' or any single-use flag in this field to avoid problems.
    Do I put -bigadv here?

yes, along with -smp x (the number of cores) and -verbosity 9 (optional, only if you want a more detailed log)

just keep in  mind that bigadv is scarce atm and most likely you won´t get one right away

Not yet.. -smp for now. You should fold 10 regular SMP units so you start getting bonus points sooner. Then you can change the flag to -bigadv after you have folded the required 10 units.

shut down the client, then add -configonly to your target line, then restart the client. This brings up the configuration screen again. Then take it out.
Then remove the -configonly  and restart the client.
BTW you can later add the -bigadv flag to your target line as well. This has the same effect as putting it there with the additional parameters, but is easier/faster  to change

Do you have the -smp either in your shortcut (the target line) or with the additional parameters? Otherwise you´ll only get the single core wus

You want - smp or -smp X (the x being the number of cores you want to fold on)

And seeing how you already have 500K folding points you should already have 10 WU's that will meet the bonus points plan so no worries on having to do 10 normal smp WU's

Ok, that's it.  I'm gonna have to dig out my old docs I had written up . . . I had the dead simple step by step for manual setup, including what each option meant.  Just need to find it again and update it for the current clients.

You´re currently folding a single core wu.
To get bigadv wus you have to add - smp or -smp x (x being the number of cores you want to use) to your target line right after the ....exe" .You can also add the -bigadv there, but you first have to remove the -advmethods from your additional client parameters.
You can get there by adding -configonly to the target line

edit: you were posting while I was typing: the answer is yes!

Do you have a passkey SBB??
    It's required for bonus points.
From the install giude I posted earlier:

    Passkey []?
Enter your passkey, or press enter to leave it blank and go to the next option. Use of a passkey is optional. However, a passkey is required to be eligible for the quick return bonus on SMP2 work units. You can find more information about Passkeys here.
